@VariableCellWould've been cool but I doubt we'll see anything pvz that isnt tied to mobile for a long time now since popcap vancouver shut down a while back.
The tweet that revealed a lot of their cancelled projects despite promising results by leadership really said a lot. Dang it i just want pvz to be on top again.

Straight from the pvz subreddit.
I was actually excited for project hot tub as it looked pretty good and full of new ideas but seeing that it was canned for a also canned star wars game hurts my soul everytime.

The biggest reason that these games are canned are mainly because of the change in the gaming market. Video games are on their last limb.people dont really want to spend money on games and primarily console games. A game wont have a standing playerbase for multiple years like weve seen with gw, halo and such.
Games die out way to quickly nowadays and payed games especially. Its not reall financially possible for ea to make another gw game, and its a sad reality which we need to accept

@toasterface5I think it's also tied to greedy companies trying to make games a live service as well.
You can't do the bare minimum for a multiplayer game, barely release any content at all every few months, and expect players to stick around.
This is why halo infinite dried up despite reviews favoring its core gameplay loop and this is why bfn failed. By the time founders was done a ton of players had already max ranked and unlocked everything so the only thing left was to play a broken shooter with less content or variety than gw1.
Variants could change the entire way you looked at a character and played but an upgrade to just earn more xp or have slightly lower cooldowns after a vanquish doesn't interest people.
Lets not forget that the game didnt include solo play at launch so you constantly forced to play the buggy and downright frustrating at times multiplayer. We only got that feature back because people complained that it was missing! The game launched with downright less content than gw2 and they somehow expected people to jump ship?
In my gw1 and 2 birthday posts those games got far much more content in a shorter period of time so there was more reasons to play! Let's not forget that it took them several months just to get the wizard out and that was after a slog of trying to duct tape the game after reducing lobby sizes to 8V8.
Gw1 on ps3 is still more active than bfn was at its peak. Why? Because its just the better game!
The worst part is they've also had promising ideas for singleplayer games but the people in charge are so lobotomized or afraid to give them the light of day that all that time and resources gets flushed down the drain and then wonder why pvz isnt just printing out money when their choices only get in the way of that! - stukapooka2 years agoLegend
Welp, with the newest redhead video out I think its safe to say the movement is dead or very diminished at best.

Reactions are about what you'd expect. Fans just have given up or are venting their frustrations. Some still questioning the decision of analayzing anti cheat but being able to do nothing for the portal and so on.
I get it. Fans are just tired of what they believe to be the series rapid decline and i frankly don't blame them for just giving up at this point with pvz 3 around the corner.
Shame since it seems the community has expanded do the fanbase overall growing up over the years and those being able to do more thi ga for pvz like adding to meme complimations and such. Shame that anyone who now becomes interested will be long past the peak of the game.
It was nice seeing some new activity and people on here for change though. Atleast we got that out of all of this. Take care you guys.

That doesn't make sense, people are still buying games. It's not that its not profitable for EA, heck Nintendo primarily focuses on single player games and they're basically dominating the gaming industry right now. And this is a multiplayer shooter with MTX for crying out loud. And it's popular too, people consistently return to GW1 and GW2 for nostalgia and that they're just good games on their own.
- stukapooka2 years agoLegend@imaPetalhead Greed maybe? Idk. Strange since they could make a lot of pro money decisions but choose not to. Imagine just taking the basis of the first pvz on switch for example. Even portal and og star wars battlefront just got their ports out their and they run fine.
Freaking Arkham knight is on switch so it couldnt be that difficult for a glorified mobile game port.
Someone in the comments of the latest video was wondering why they just don't ask respected modders to make a fix that they can just plug in so they only have to do the bare minimum while the community fixes the game.
Idk if that would work though. - Iron_Guard82 years agoLegend
It's frustrating to be sure. I've loved PvZ since the original game came out on Steam all these years ago, and the shooters made me love the franchise even more. I was more than happy to spend money on the GW games (I did spend on BfN too, but not as much and not as happy about it), but games as a service isn't doing as well due to gamers finally getting sick of all the microtransactions (especially on games that already may cost 70-100 dollars or more in the first place), and the other problems these games can have.
I never had an issue spending extra money on the GW games since I never felt I had too. Instead of feeling like I'd be missing out if I didn't spend money on them, I felt I was showing support for games that are just fun and great to play. They're not perfect of course, but the good far outweighed the bad. GW2 I felt was especially good value for my money as I have over 3200 hours in it now, and still play, albeit at a lower rate than my peak years.
A lot of us are playing more and more indie titles these days with all the issues that 'AAA' games are having these days, but the GW games are special to a lot of us, from those that played them as kids to older gamers like me. The games have great personality and lack the soulless cash-grab of a lot of these kind of online shooters are plagued with these days. The dialog, characters, maps, general setting, and look of the games all add up to give us some of the most fun I've had in online games of this type, only TF2's early days and Gigantic (which is making a comeback in April) can compete with the GW games for me.
We need a new GW game and not 10 years from now, but soon. PvZ is a beloved IP and the GW games still get love from the fans, even with the current state of things, just look at all the 10 year anniversary videos and comments for the original GW, and it got a direct sequel only 2 years after launch! I know things aren't the best for the franchise right now, but as I've said many times in the past, give us a good new GW game, preferably bringing back some of the stuff we love from the current shooters, especially some of the maps from GW so we can play those with some QoL updates, and I'll be ready to buy it, and I'm not the only one. We know you can make some gems EA, I've been playing your games since the 80s, and while you've mishandled a lot of IPs and studios over the years, we all know you can make a solid GW game and not ruin the fun as GW and GW2 can attest too while you still make money. If we can't get fixes for the current games, we need new one!

@Iron_Guard8I guess we'll have to see how pvz 3 turns out and what they decide to do with the series going forward depending on how well it does.
I really wish the sentiment on the redhead video of giving the game to the community or Atleast respected members to make changes could take off since it seems like the playerbase genuinely cares and it takes little effort on the publishers besides raking the cash it could bring from somebody seeing support and deciding to buy the game or its packs.
I know they've said its not apparently as simple as changing a line of code but they still had to do something with the game to make the anti cheat work and fix other issues. If the community is willing to essentially fix certain things themselves for free then why not? Ea could only benefit by making more money from non mobile pvz players and its not like anyones apparently working on the game in that manner from what they're telling us.My gw3 would be the gnomes being more prevalent and thus causing time to get messed up to use it as a glorified excuse to bring in old maps.

they will happily fix the banning issue because it stops players from spending money, portal rotation likely wont change as its just QOL for achievements unfortunately
- stukapooka2 years agoLegend
@ShremmyIt's sad because they could probably make a bit of money off of fixing the portal since gw2 would be easier to recommend if it had newer content and people would likely buy the game for it.
However this is probably the truth. Its why they're so quick to fix rux and other issues but somehow unable to actually change the portal.
