How *Skate* can respond to *Reskate*

As a PS5 player, I don't have access to *Reskate*, but I completely understand the hype surrounding it.

A counter-move—and, above all, a gesture of good faith to restore *Skate*'s reputation—would be to:

Implement the maps (or at least the best locations) from previous titles, include a day/night cycle (or even other times of day like morning or evening), and provide access to all cosmetics from past games (clothes, boards, etc.)—all for free.

That would be a strong, ideal initial response to win back the community; after that, you could proceed with seasons and updates as you have done since the beginning of *Skate*, if you see fit.

Peace !

    I have to disagree.

    1. The maps they would implement would need to be graphically brought up to Skate's current standard or else we'd never hear the end of how "lazy" the port was.
    2. Day/night cycles aren't in reskate, there are separate day and night maps that you load into. The challenge of a dynamically changing time of day, is how does that interact with features like video replay, and how does it affect performance and the minimum system requirements for the game? A lot harder to do than one might initially think.
    3. The licenses for all cosmetics were tied to each previous game and that game alone. They cannot reuse any of those previous cosmetics for multiple reasons, but the main two are:
      a) They do not have the licenses for any of those items.
      b) Those items are fit to an entirely different character model in an entirely different engine with entirely different animations.
      So this is not possible.

Skate has no reputation loss here and doesn't need to do anything.

I understand that for a console user who's maybe unfamiliar with PC and modding, it might look this is a major paradigm shift. But if we look at other Skateboarding games with deep modding scenes, like SkaterXL and Session, they don't come close to Skate's concurrent playercounts, so the things that Skate actually provides to people (Progression, challenges, story, cross-play, accessibility and much more) are not actually being threatened by Reskate in any way.  GTA 6 is about to come out soon, people are gonna forget about it in short order I reckon.

agreed and this is coming from a PC player who can play reskate.

yes it's interesting to play these modded and ported maps but they don't have the polish and attention to detail skate. can put out not to mention many areas your character just falls through the map.

it's cool that you can mod your own board graphic, clothes skins etc but the vast majority of time you are playing reskate you are alone on a map and even if you are in a full server the other players are skipping around because reskate servers are awful.  a huge part of why players love unique cosmetics is to separate themselves from the crowd and show off their style but when your not playing with friends or random skaters and completely removed from the social aspect that skate. beautifully delivers it all kind of feels pointless.

another thing that bothers me is that in reskate you have the ability to play with mechanics and environmental changes that EA is currently working on that will come to the game when it's ready.  you are essentially spoiling the surprise for yourself and others with a less polished version of what skate will deliver.

for me I find myself coming back to skate. because it's the polish and yes it's not always perfect but it's far better than what madders can do and the social aspect i find myself missing after playing on a ported map void of any life.

reskate will not take over Skate.

Thanks for your feedback on this post.

I’m going to follow up and agree with you on some points while clarifying others.

Regarding the maps, I agree—though I’d really love to see at least a few legendary spots from the older games return. If that’s in the works and the developers need time, no worries; I’m happy to wait.

As for the day/night cycle, I wasn't talking about real-time rotation, but rather an option to choose the time of day you want to play (mainly day or night). Again, I can be patient since it’s already been discussed.

You’re right about the cosmetics, and it’s a shame. Why not at least keep some simple customization options for the current cosmetic items—features we had before—such as:

-Choosing to wear your cap forwards, backwards, sideways, etc.

-Changing the color of pants, t-shirts, or other basic (non-branded) cosmetic items.

-Using the logos available for the decks on your clothing, and adjusting the size or placement of logos on the decks.

-Having multiple tattoos on the same limb (even just two would be great).

Finally, I completely agree with the last part of your post.

Personally, I feel like I’m contributing to the game's evolution and supporting improvements—and by extension, the developers—through microtransactions, especially considering it’s a free-to-play game (which is a huge deal in itself; a lot of people seem to forget that).

Also, given the buzz *Reskate* is generating on social media—for a longtime fan of the franchise, what they’re offering looks like a dream come true; I think you’ll understand.

I just hope this gives the developers some ideas.

In any case, I play *Skate* and enjoy it every day.

(And yes, like many others, I’m eagerly awaiting *GTA 6*, but I’ll always have time for *Skate*!)

Yeah mate I would love to see those styling elements come back, hopefully some day it does. I feel the same way about MTX, I actually feel good about the purchases I do make because there is no other way we would ever get a Skate game ever again. So many people don't understand, this game is a total labour of love.

Reskate, it may seem like the dream but the grass isn't always greener
