Private matchmaking

As of recently the game has had a huge queue of people logging into a server. i would like to know if I'm not the only one thinking "i wish i could just have a private server for me and my friends to mess around in so we can have fun" so i would love to know if its possible for this to happen? the benefits of there being a private server are less lag, easier to find who you are looking for, and host private competitions among huge friend groups and lots more.
