Re: Jedi Survivor not Connecting video on Steam Remote Play

Hi @poindexter144

We don't have much control for issues with the Steam Remote play features, I would recommend trying the steps suggested by Vavlve here

Illium, this is not a simple Remote Play feature issue.

The EA Desktop App update on 2024/01/16, version (13.104.0.5617) broke Steam Integration. In-Game Achievement notifications are affected.

For those who have retained the 2024/01/09 version (13.96.0.5609), it is possible to revert back and restore functionality. Personally, I don't have the old version in either my Program Files folder, nor in my Previous Versions/Shadow Copies to revert to. As I performed a clean install of the EA Desktop app to attempt to resolve the issue.

It seems to only affect Jedi: Survivor at the moment, but it does seem to be something that occurred as a direct result of the EA Desktop App updating, which indicates there is nothing Steam can do to resolve the issue.

For the moment there is a work-around which is to add the EA Desktop App as a "Non-Steam Game" to Steam, and if the EA Desktop App is not running in the background, then launching it through Steam should restore the Steam integrations. However, we still cannot launch Jedi: Survivor from Steam directly, as it must be launched through the EA Desktop App. This is extremely clunky, and a poor experience.

    [Asking for information]

    Hey Everyone,

Would it be possible to get a bit more information regarding this?

    • Platform (or client):
    • EA ID (PSN ID/Gamertag):
    • Are you getting an error message?
    • If possible, share a Screenshot or Clip...
    • If on PC, please share a DxDiag file and an EA app Error ID Number

We can use this information, to help make the team aware of the issue and to further investigate.

Hey @cj_art Thanks for the additional information!

    Cheers!

    • Platform (or client): Steam
    • EA ID (PSN ID/Gamertag): I don't use a PSN ID or Gamertag for my EA ID.
    • Are you getting an error message?: No.
    • If possible, share a Screenshot or Clip...: I can't screenshot the Steam Overlay, if it doesn't show up.
    • If on PC, please share a DXDiag file and an EA app Error ID Number: There is no error. This is not a hardware, driver, or DirectX issue.

Is it really necessary for me to record a video of myself launching the game on Steam, and then hitting "Shift+Tab" to prove that nothing happens?

Is it necessary to record a video of myself trying to run Jedi: Survivor on two devices simultaneously, by starting it on a Desktop PC, and then clicking "Connect" on a Steam Deck or other Steam Remote Play compatible device?

Will I also need to track down a copy of the old EA Desktop App from 2024/01/09 and repeat those recordings to prove that the issue worked before the 2024/01/16 update?

  • I'm having this same exact issue. I've played Jedi Survivor around 40 hours exclusively through steam remote play to my steam deck and now has stopped working. The game launches on my pc and when I stream to my steam deck it gets stuck on the splash loading screen with the blue loading circle at the bottom right. I can hear the game audio playing through my steam deck, it just never comes off the loading screen.

*Edited to say that every other steam game in my library is able to be streamed using remote play to steam deck with no issue. Seems to only be Jedi Survivor, leading me to believe it is not a Valve/Steam issue.

  • There is a workaround of adding EAdesktop.exe as a non steam game in your library. For me this appeared to not work at first but after restarting my PC it worked. The steps that worked for me are this:

    1. Add as a non steam game the EADesktop.exe file to your steam library (should be in your program files in the C drive)

    2. Restart your PC

    3. Start up Steam deck, go to the newly added EADestop.exe in library. Don't stream yet

    4. On your host PC make sure the EA App and the EA background service are closed (kill them in task manager)

    5. Stream EADesktop.exe from your deck.

    6. Now on the host PC, start jedi survivor from your steam library (this is what works for me, if I start it from the EA app it does not launch for some reason)

    7. The game stream should appear as expected on your client monitor and audio. Hopefully!

Like I said, these steps are what are currently working for me. Hopefully it also works for you!

cj_art is my EA ID, correct? Otherwise could you provide a link to instructions for finding my EA ID? I'm fairly certain this account existed before Origin and the EA Desktop app.

Can I provide both a DxDiag file and an EA App Error ID Number?

No I cannot provide both. There is no EA App Error ID Number. What is your technical support system so broken that a bug without an error cannot be reported?

    Hey @cj_art

To confirm the EA ID will be what is shown in the EA app, you can also find it in your EA Account Settings.

You can reply to this thread with a DXdiag file and EA app Error ID, to get the Error ID follow the steps here

    1. Click the menu icon (it looks like 3 horizontal lines) in the top left corner of the app, hover over Help, then click EA Error Reporter.
      • If you’re playing on Mac, go to Help in the taskbar and select EA Error Reporter.
    2. Choose the Type of problem you’re having.
    3. Tell us about the issue you’re having in the Description of problem field.
    4. Check the box next to By clicking this box, you agree to share diagnostic information with EA.
    5. Click Submit report and wait for it to complete.
    6. Write down your Report ID and share it here.

    Thanks!

  • Is this going to be fixed?

    I have this same issue.

It will stream the loading bar from EA app, then the game will launch and the loading bar will go away causing the stream to stop.

Reconnecting the stream will just sit on a loading screen.

I would like to add that this is an issue with any EA App launched games through steam. Not just Jedi Survivor.

Yes I'm having the same issue with Battlefront 2 as well.

Just figured out how to get steam remote play to work on my steam deck. What a janky way to force people to use the EA launcher. I hear tell this wasn't a thing until this year. Whatever EA did in that January update is a tyrannical middle finger to anyone trying to not use their bloatware that "enhances" your gaming experience with microtransactions.

    What a sad show.

Hopefully the game is worth the headache, I enjoyed fallen order

@Hawkeye8081 I added the EA app launcher onto steam library and booted the EA app up in steam before launching game. It is not enough to simply launch ea before launching the game through steam. You must first launch the launcher in steam, then you can launch the game in steam and remote play works* both ea app and jedi survivor must turn green in steam library to work.

*not many hours on this yet to say it for sure works 100%
