Updating In-Game Mod Recommendations for Older Characters

It’s no secret that experienced players often ignore the in-game mod recommendations, choosing instead to fine-tune their mods manually. However, data shows that the majority of players still rely on these in-game suggestions. This makes it all the more important to ensure they are as accurate and character-specific as possible.

Looking closely at older characters, a clear pattern emerges: their Primary and Secondary stat recommendations often follow just a few repetitive templates, regardless of their Kit. Some of the most common setups include:

  • Protection Circle, Protection Cross, Crit Damage Triangle, Speed Arrow
  • Full Protection Primaries

These setups feel overly standardized and fail to capture the nuances of individual characters. In contrast, newer characters show a significant improvement, with much more tailored recommendations that align with their specific strengths and roles.

Updating the Primary and Secondary mod recommendations for older characters would not only improve gameplay effectiveness for those relying on the in-game system but also create a more consistent and polished experience across the entire roster.

This adjustment would have a meaningful impact on a large portion of the player base and bring the older characters up to the same standard as the newer ones.

Thank you for considering this change — it’s a small tweak that could make a big difference!

  • Sorry - what data “shows” that the majority of players rely on in game suggestions?

If you check swgoh.gg, you’ll notice that while top Kyber players usually optimize their mods manually, the ‘Best Mods’ tab under ‘All’ shows that for almost every character, the most popular mod set aligns with the in-game recommendations. Or look at a specific unit. Then go to Player Data and select All and look at mods.

      Examples:

      1. Jedi Master Luke (JML): Every top player recommends Speed with Health/Defense/Potency sets. In Kyber, only 3% of players use Full Health sets (the in-game recommendation). However, when you look at all players, 39% use Full Health sets instead of Speed.
      2. Galactic Legend Rey: It’s well known that she performs best with Offense/Health sets. In Kyber, only 2% of players use a Speed set. But looking at all players, 38% use a Speed set as recommended in-game.
      3. Jedi Knight Revan: Speed is everything for him. In Kyber, only 5% of players use an Offense/Crit Chance set (the in-game recommendation). Yet, across all players, 37% stick to the Offense/Crit Chance suggestion.

You can repeat this comparison for almost any character and quickly realize that roughly one-third of players follow the in-game mod recommendations.

I’m not saying this is the optimal way to mod characters, but it would be incorrect to claim that no one uses these suggestions or that improving them wouldn’t benefit the community

        Thanks - that’s a pretty thorough explanation.

It wasn’t me who claimed no one uses these suggestions, and that person was obviously incorrect, but it would also be incorrect to claim that “the majority of players rely on these in-game suggestions”, which is what you claimed.

I can see the point in what you’re requesting, but I definitely feel that players who can’t be bothered to do even a little investigating into what mod sets work best for their characters should suffer the consequences. There is an ocean of swgoh players that don’t understand mods at all. I personally think the game is doing enough to help them out with in-game recommendations as it is.

  • I'll bet that the majority of the players don't even care about primary and secondary stats.

If it's not speed, it doesn't really matter.

  • Players should be ignoring the in-game recommendations because they're made by people at CG who don't play the game.  Check content creators on twitch or YT for recommendations.

As far as older characters, they are very low priority for CG to do anything about because they don't make money off updating older characters.  (Though they're perfectly fine with making datacrons for older characters to get us to R9 our whole roster, and/or putting them in operations in ROTE TB!)

Again, who is taking a character to r9 for a datacron?

Why do you keep referring to Datacrons in posts that have nothing to do with them? Is it because you love them so much?

  • Nobody uses the in game recommendations- simply google the character name and mods and take it from SWGOH.GG which will generally give you the current meta for mods on characters.

This is a classic misconception to think that no one uses the in-game recommendations. That's because all the people who are active in forums, YouTube, etc. manage their own mods and you only hear from them. But people forget that a large proportion are casual players or those who don't want to invest time in mods and therefore use the in-game recommendations. And for them, an update like this would make perfect sense.

But I totally agree with you that if you want to deal with mods in more detail, you should use SWGOH.gg.
