During a recent trip I confirmed that the bug only applies to certain ISP. I went from France (ISP: orange) to Germany (ISP: Vodafone) and Switzerland.
While I can't play with mobile data in France, I was able to play normaly in Germany and Switzerland.

Did someone of you had a chat with Orange about this issue?
Yes I reached out yesterday to their technical support but they say they haven't changed anything on their end and that since all other app on our phones keep working fine on mobile data it must come from your end at EA. They told me to reach out to you.
Here are screenshots, in French, on that conversation.
Orange is by far the biggest ISP in France. And SWGOH is working fine on Orange wifi, but not on Orange mobile data. Orange is also in Spain, Ukraine and Poland and several African countries.- EA_Gunner@Virae_Arnaud Thank you. I'll let studio know.
- @Virae_Arnaud I was able to connect today using mobile data for the first time in many weeks. You should give it try.
I am glad it works for you now, which country do you live in and what ISP are you using?
Unfortunately for me it is still not working, I have just uninstalled the game, switched off and on the phone, reinstalled the game and retried connecting on mobile data but I am still stuck when the loading screen is looking for potential updates ☹️
Bug still on for me.
- @Virae_Arnaud I am in France and I am using Orange (Sosh to be precise).
I no longer get the connection error message and the game is running normaly on 4g/5g
I hope the problem will be sorted out quickly for you. Crazy, I'm on Sosh (orange) as well, in France as well. It does not work for me despite multiple cache clearing, reinstalling, restarting phone etc. I still can't play on mobile data.

It is still not working on mobile data but I've found a workaround yesterday. You can play on mobile data with orange if you use a VPN. I got NordVPN yesterday, it works fine if I activate it before launching the game.
It's clearly not ideal, but it saves the day for now.
Well, I am down again... ☹️
