Loading Errors

Hi, I'm new to playing the sims 3 (I've only really played the sims 4) and I was really enjoying it. However my first game I tried to save, wouldn't, and when I tried to close and relaunch the game I can't. I just get a error message saying Appaloosa plains or Sunset valley couldn't be loaded and to try restarting. I've done everything, deleting and re-downloading, preparing through the EA app, turning off one drive, even renaming the sims 3 folder as 'the sims 3 old'. Nothing has worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated, please.

  • Bloomthewolf  Are you getting the "serious error" message?  When you turned off OneDrive, did you confirm that your Documents directory is no longer in the OneDrive folder, or that Sims 3 is no longer trying to write to that folder?  This is the location I mean:

    C:\Users\your username\OneDrive\Documents

The game should write to ... your username > Documents instead, but if it's still trying to use the OneDrive folder, that would explain the problem.

Another way to check is to ask Command Prompt for the location of the Documents directory:

reg query "HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders" /v "Personal"

The game will always try to use this directory if it can.

  • I do think EA and Origin are scammers! Sims 3 has been nuked. It is unplayable.  :(

Thank you, I'll try this tomorrow and see if it works! I'm not very good when it comes to computers if it goes past downloading files and moving them into a mod folder, but I'll follow your instructions to the best of my ability! :)
