If they're are gonna force people to rebuy the same **bleep** packs like we’re stupid, then a digital trade-in or exchange system should 100% exist. And the wild part? It’s fully possible. They could do it tomorrow. The tech is already there. They just don’t wanna build it because it messes with their little corporate coins. They literally already track every pack you own, what platform you bought it on, your EA account, your PSN/Xbox account , all that. So it would be NOTHING for them to set up a system like, “I own this on PlayStation, give me the PC version,” or “I bought it on PC, give me credit toward the console version.” Boom, done. They have the data. They have the tech. They just choose not to do it because convenience for players doesn’t make them money.
And here’s the part they’ll never say out loud: Sony and Microsoft don’t allow lost revenue.
If you “trade in” a $25 DLC pack, Sony loses their 30% cut. They’re not letting you refund or convert anything that takes money out of their store. They don’t want you buying a pack on PlayStation and then turning around and using that money to play on PC. Absolutely not. Then EA, being EA, is looking at all the people who switch platforms and happily rebuy the same pack again at full price. That’s free money to them. A trade-in or cross-buy system would kill all those duplicate sales. So of course they keep it messy and inconvenient on purpose.
And what makes it even more ridiculous is that they COULD give us: a cross-grade discount, a platform swap, a digital trade-in credit, a universal bundle that covers all versions…like literally so many options that are easy as hell to implement. None of it breaks the game. It just breaks their revenue stream. And THAT’S why it doesn’t exist.
