Cross-Platform DLC Transfers for The Sims 4

Dear Reader,

As a dedicated Sim player for over 18 years, I genuinely love and enjoy the game. While I've occasionally been frustrated by some updates (or the lack thereof), nothing has been more disheartening than the inability to transfer purchased packs across platforms.

I currently play on PlayStation but have been considering switching to PC/Mac for greater convenience, especially when traveling. However, I was shocked to discover that the significant investment I've made in The Sims 4 content—over $1,400 across expansion packs, game packs, stuff packs, and kits—would not carry over to a new platform.

This limitation is both frustrating and discouraging for loyal players like myself. What is the point of having an EA account if it doesn't provide the flexibility to access purchased content across platforms? The idea of repurchasing the same DLC content for another $1,400 is unreasonable and alienating to devoted fans.

Allowing cross-platform pack transfers would offer more advantages than drawbacks:

  1. Player Loyalty and Customer Appreciation:
The Sims franchise thrives on its passionate and loyal player base. Allowing cross-platform pack transfers would show that EA values and appreciates its most dedicated players.
  2. Increasing Player Engagement:
Players are more likely to engage with the game on multiple platforms when their content carries over. This flexibility enhances the player experience, encouraging greater long-term involvement in the game.
  3. Consistency with Industry Trends:
Cross-platform play and transferable purchases are becoming industry standards. Major gaming companies such as Epic Games, Microsoft, and Ubisoft have embraced this model, making it easier for players to access their content across different devices. EA should follow suit to remain competitive and player-focused.
  4. Convenience for Players on the Go:
Gaming isn't confined to a single device anymore. Many players, myself included, would love to play The Sims 4 while traveling or on road trips by simply hotspotting a laptop to a phone. Without cross-platform content, this becomes nearly impossible for console players.
  5. Protection Against Piracy:
The current system inadvertently encourages players to seek unauthorized ways to access their paid content on other platforms. Offering a legitimate solution for transferring packs would reduce the incentive for piracy.
  6. Increased DLC Sales:
Players who have the flexibility to use their packs across platforms are more likely to continue purchasing new content rather than feeling alienated by platform restrictions.
  7. Improved Customer Satisfaction:
Happy customers are more likely to recommend the game and remain loyal to the franchise. Allowing pack transfers would address a significant pain point for many players, fostering a more positive relationship with the EA brand.

I understand that some might argue I should simply remain on PlayStation, but it's not always practical. Being able to hotspot my laptop during travel and play like so many other players would be a game-changer for me.

I appreciate the hard work the team puts into developing new content, and I'm more than willing to continue supporting The Sims series financially. However, I cannot justify paying twice for the same content. Loyal fans deserve a better solution. I sincerely hope EA will consider addressing this issue and providing a solution that benefits the entire player base.

Thank you for your time and for listening to this long-time player's concerns.

~ Haley

You are buying the product from a specific storefront, for the device that storefront supports. These devices tell you outright that this is how it works, and you agree to that on purchase. It's really that simple.

  • Its impossible and its stupid, who has enough money to buy the packs on, lets say console and then buy them again on laptop or a pc? EA really need to fix this as its money grabbing and im already poor enough but i think having packs makes gameplay better and less boring. Please EA do something about this.

Orchidschild it's unfortunate but it's a manufacturing issue, console content isn't compatible with a PC, PS content couldn't be played on an Xbox either. Since it's DLC it's kind of assumed that it could be played on different platforms but even DLC content is created and formatted differently for each platform. There are design limitations over which EA has no control unfortunately. The base game itself is free though on all platforms.

You bought these packs from sony, on sony's services, for sony's device. It's not up to EA, it's up to sony, and the purchase TOU states as much.

  • Hey, Sims, 4 Team, I'm orchidschild, I hope you all are having a lovely day! I am going to get right down to it and tell you guys that you are ripping off your customers! I used to play the sims 4 avidly until my ps4 broke (not a sims or EA problem) and I couldn't play for months, fast forward to 2025, I get a computer, a good gaming computer and go to log in under the impression that I can just log into the sims WITH MY EA\SIMS4 ACCOUNT and redownload the packs I have bought! (Keep in mind I bought SEVERAL packs from you guys with my hard-earned money I have spilled my tears and sweat for) I had to find out the hard way about you guys not moving packs over to another platform! I do not want to play the sims again because of this issue!! I have tried contacting people about getting my packs back and I cannot get them back unless I REPURCHASE the pack!! I am currently out of a job right now as I am a college student who just wants to relax at the end of the day like the rest of you by cozying up and playing the sims! I can almost guarantee if this were to happen to someone else in my position, I would be furious and on the management side of things, I would go above and beyond for my well-paying customers! I have a mother who is a manager at a store, she makes things right and then more to make them happy, to make them come back to her business! Sims4 team, please fix this issue.

  •  Dear Sims 4 Support, I currently have a Sims 4 account on my PlayStation, and I was wondering if this feature could be included in future updates, allowing me to put my account on my MacBook. I know other games offer the ability to transfer accounts between different platforms, and it would be amazing if Sims 4 could offer the same functionality. I’ve spent over 150 dollars  on game packs, and I really do not want to restart or lose my progress. I have a trip coming up in June 2025, and it would mean a lot to me if this feature could be made available in time for that. Additionally, I know I’m not alone in this request, many other players feel the same way and would greatly appreciate the ability to link their accounts across platforms

    Best regards,

The Sims 4 on my PS4 console is practically unplayable. It is glitchy more often than not and frequently crashes, so much so that I rarely ever play it anymore. The Sims team does not seem to pay much attention to console problems anyway, so I have little hope the crashes will be fixed.

Because of this, I bought the game on my Mac and it runs much better and is actually enjoyable. However, I found out that my packs from my Sims 4 cannot be transferred to my Mac which is extremely annoying because the game is pretty boring without all the packs I've bought.

I contacted EA support and they said there was nothing they could do except urge me to post on here. As a loyal customer who has spent hundreds on DLC ranging from stuff packs to expansion packs, it seems unreasonable to not be given some compensation, like perhaps a voucher, to redeem the same packs I bought on my PS4 to my Mac, especially considering they are connected through the same EA account?
