cloning sim

Hey. Sorry if this is a dumb question. So I've been playing with my little Sim version of myself for a while and she's done a lot of aspirations, degrees, and maxed out a lot of skills, so I'd kinda like to start from scratch with her. I have other rotating households I play for sure (Ulrike Faust, the Vatores, the Fengs, a Sim version of my family, and Judith Ward I love playing), but it's always nice having a little "Mini Me" in the Sims. So I tried to start over and found the easiest way to do it was to create a biological twin I edited heavily. It was nice, but I'd really just like to create a physical duplicate of the Sim I initially made and am attached to and be able to also add her into my existing family genealogy-wise. If anyone has any ideas of how to do this, please let me know!

Thank you very much!

  • It depends on how 'Started over" you want to get.

If you want them to retain ALL their skills, job and such. Just edit the sim in CAS and upload it to your library. You can download them again into a new save.

If you want them to start fresh, you'll have to use cheats. You can use UICheats or MCCC to do it.  Just save them to your library. Download them again into a new save. Then use UI Cheats or MCCC to reset their skills down to an earlier level, quit their job, and save them back to your library. Call them "My Sim (reset)"  Then, when you place them, they'll be all started over.

Console command cheats have never been very reliable and hardly ever work. Mods like UICheats and MCCC always work because they do things behind the scenes.  You can always just install them long enough to reset your sim and remove them. It won't harm the game at all.

  • I'm not well versed in editing files and stuff but do remember the "Get to Work" pack has a literal cloning machine that can be upgraded to clone sims themselves.

They'll be given a random first name but keep the last meaning they are essentially a sibling (same stats but no career/relationships), and can also become an evil twin by accident.

Hey! Yes I tried this method, but they have all of the skills set in place. I tried using cheats to get rid of them, but it didn't seem to work :/

I may have been doing something wrong, and if anyone has any input there that'd be helpful. I used the skill cheat people use to max out their skills to 10 (or 5) and set them to 0 or 1. I tried with both those numbers and neither worked. They stayed maxed out!

Otherwise, that was my first choice for sure!

    Thanks x

  • @alnorine I Think there is a way to create a sort of clone without using the cloning machine from the Pack Get to Work.

First you have to save a household with the Sim you want to clone into your library. Then place this household onto a lot to create a completely new family with it. Use the cheat cas.fulleditmode and then go to manage worlds and adjust the Sim you want to clone in this family back to toddler stage. Save this family and return again to manage worlds. Now you have a family with this toddler which is a younger version of your initial Sim. Go back to manage worlds again and exchange this toddler Sim with any family you see fit in the known or visible world. Of course when a Sims family already consists of 8 Sims you have to replace one Sim back into the newly created family.

When you finished these moves you can always delete the family you used to create the clone entirely.

    Have fun playing. 😉

Awesome! Thanks so much. Yeah the reset with the mods is totally what I'm looking for. Just fiddling with MCCC getting the hang of it and I'll try the other too.

First time asking a question. Thanks to everyone for your thorough help!

@alnorine Depends on what you want to do. Both are extremely useful. But if you only want to reset skills, uicheats is easier. You can just click on their skill in the skills window and type in what you want it to be. MCCC will do it too, but you have to go through menus. MCCC has a TON more options though. Which is why I use both.

I'm resetting skills, degrees, earned/purchased traits, relationships (aside from family genealogy), aspirations (I see MCCC does this), work history if that's a thing, aaand since my Sim has been a Spellcaster and vampire, I want to wipe that out. If a reformed vampire gets bitten again, I'm pretty sure they start out with a lot of points already, but I think there are basic cheat codes that can wipe that, so not worried about that, but will definitely see if MCCC has an option. It seems more stable and less likely to wonk up my game.

Essentially, I want my "Mini Me" Sim to be totally blank except her genealogy with her family. I do not wish to reset them however. So I just need to have a wiped Sim, delete the current one with all the skills etc, and slip the new one in the family.

She also kept having all these issues too of people thinking she was cheating or that she was being cheated on bc they had a romance bar from autonomous flirting previously. Bc I couldn't totally delete the bar, it was making her get slapped a lot haha. Or she'd be miserable for a while thinking someone she'd never dated was cheating on her. I see too that MCCC can fix this.

So I'll just tinker and it looks like all those needs can be met. Excited to get this working! It was pretty tedious before trying and failing different methods!

    Thanks! x

@alnorine Hmmm... Neither program will do ALL of that. I'm sure.

I think it might be better in your case to just clone their looks. It should work fine as long as they're not a mermaid or alien.

There is an option in MCCC to copy a sim's looks from one sim to another. This might be better. It's the only way to ensure a completely clean sim.

Just create a brand-new sim. Same gender, but looks and clothing don't matter. Put them into a house, take them into Live mode and click on them. Go into MC Command Center\MC CAS\Copy/Paste\Paste Tray Sim\Any Saved Sim

You can then pick your sim from your library and copy their looks and clothing. You'll need to tweak them a little bit. Makeup doesn't come over, but everything else does. Plus they won't have any of their skills or history.

Just don't try it with a mermaid, alien, or vampire. It tends to not work right with those.
