Eating/drinking all the ingredients!!

So I adore the idea of the Simple Living lot challenge. This was one of the huge selling points for the Cottage Living pack for me. I had mods in my game in order to make my Sims dependent on having the actual ingredients in their inventory or fridge before they could cook the recipe. I don't know if this is a bug or a feature or just another Sim annoyance like the "drinking water until you pee yourself" thing but my sims are literally spamming the fridge to drink milk. 

There is a lovely cottage pie in the fridge and they are drinking the $15 bottle of milk (I don't have a cow yet). I send them to get leftovers and they are nomming all the milk that is needed for recipes. There is absolutely NO way of filtering what is an ingredient item and what is a leftover and free to eat item. 

It is like my Sims are suddenly a bunch of growing teenagers who are guzzling a gallon of milk a day and I can't keep it in the house long enough to make dinner. 

This displeases me. I don't want to have to make a locking pantry to keep them away from the fridge all the time except mealtime because I hate having to micromanage them but, seriously, it is getting absurd. Every single idle moment they have, they are bee-lining to the fridge to drink some milk.
