[ECO] Issues with "Steel the Show Column"

Product: The Sims 4
Platform:Mac
Which language are you playing the game in? English
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
What is your current game version number? 1.63.134.1220
What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All packs.
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Try placing the new "Steel the Show Column". (Note: The turning issue shown below happens every time if the column's on an outside corner. The issue with a column randomly placing a different direction only from the direction I want or that I set the other side to - maybe 20-40% of the time? It seems to just snap to which direction it's determined to go and there's nothing you can do but turn it and have it disappear to inside the room.)
What happens when the bug occurs? I had several times that I placed this column on identical yet opposite corners of a room and on one side the post will only face in one direction and on the other side it will do the opposite (see images) Plus if you grab the post and hit the keys to turn it it disappears and turns up inside the inside corner (with the outside part clipped). Another column can even then be put where it was before you turned it. Very odd.
What do you expect to see? I expect it to turn when I try to change it's direction not disappear to the inside of the room, and I expect to be able to place it in both directions, not randomly in one or the other direction (flat or open edge).
Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Never used.
Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Yes
Please describe the patch or change you made. Eco Lifestyle

"Steel the Show Column" column:

Before testing:

Left side before (only direction it allows placement):

Left side when turned one click (with the <, .> keys):

Left side what you now see on the inside of that corner:

Right side before:

Right side when you grab the column and turned one click (with the <, .> keys):

Right side inside corner after turned (plus you can even put another post on the outside over the clipped section - odd):

Can I also mention... I was disappointed that this column cannot be dragged taller. ☹️

I guess that basically the bottom line is that I love the aesthetic of this column, but it definitely has 'sides'. So... the fact that turning columns does not work on a corner (except in this buggy manner) makes them unusable for exterior corners as I'd hoped.

Plus it would be nice if we could just freely pull a column with height extension options upward regardless of it f there is a roof (as in this case) or additional floor above.

  • @SheriGR I have the same issue and I'm mildly infuriated because i have one second floor exterior corner above a flat side of the bottom floor, so the bottom column is straight but the one directly above it is sideways :/

If you're not opposed to using Mods, there is a mod by TwistedMexi which will enable you to rotate this to your desired effect.

@AudreySugg I had originally put this up as a bug report, but it was moved here to be feedback. Turns out that this is how columns normally behave, but it just seems annoying with this one since it has distinctive sides, and in certain placings it can be inconsistent since it snaps to the direction it will accept.

Since posting this I did re-arrange the posts on the home I was working on in the original post, and I changed the placement of some of the posts to accommodate the game's 'auto' behavior. (You're welcome to see what placement choices I made if you want to check/experiment with that build: https://www.ea.com/games/the-sims/the-sims-4/pc/gallery/94D08901C0F711EA8C985A33F2A459FA).

I did find that they usually worked well as a 'support' placement, just not always as a 'corner/edge' decoration.

I do really like the columns, though, and I found that I could add them several places by being a bit 'creative' (methods like adding or extending roofing over the area or other trial and error stuff.) (I also use MOO regularly when placing, though I test to make sure it's not needed to place the lot.) It is a hassle, but like many aspects of building in Sims, being forced to try new ways and workarounds sometimes helps me learn. Or sometimes just makes me frustrated and exasperated.

I hope you're able to find ways you like for placing the columns in your lot in the end. I would love to see it, if you want to share?

  • The fact that I’ve found this thread 4 years later due to having the same issue I guess tells me either EA doesn’t care about it or doesn’t really read these…

EA doesn't usually "fix" things that are already working as designed. As @SheriGR said, in the post right above yours, "Turns out that this is how columns normally behave, but it just seems annoying with this one since it has distinctive sides, and in certain placings it can be inconsistent since it snaps to the direction it will accept."

Hi folks, I'll close this thread to help limit necroposting but thanks @Sketch793 for taking the time to highlight that portion of @SheriGR's post. It'll help future readers find that part of it that bit quicker. 😄
