Game UI not loading and my Sim has a broken texture

The game UI just doesn't appear and I can't play at all, and my Sim has a broken texture everywhere. I've tried removing all my mods and CC, freeing storage space, restarting Windows, and none of that worked. Trying to enter Manage Worlds causes the screen to turn black but I can still hover over my Sim and see their name and age, and the UI that does appear is still there but it doesn't work. Repairing the game and starting a new save fixes the broken textures, but it still doesn't fix the UI dissapearing.

  • Running the game with nothing else but the EA app didn't work, the UI still doesn't show up. I've updated Windows and downloaded new graphics drivers. This is on a clean boot

  • CasualSimmer4096  Did you specifically use Display Driver Uninstaller to remove your graphics driver before installing the new one?  If not, please do so now.  It's important to eliminate the driver as a source of error, to the extent that that's possible, and DDU is the closest we can get to doing so.

If DDU doesn't or didn't help, please create a new admin Windows account and try playing there.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account.  (You'll see the option to say you don't have this person's email address or other info.)  You'll be able to sign into your existing EA account and launch Sims 4, but your saves and other user data won't be available.  That's fine for now and can be addressed later if necessary.

Try first in normal boot mode, and if that still doesn't help, try a clean boot in the new account.

Please let us know which issues you see, if any, in a clean boot in the new Windows account.

    1. DDU didn't fix anything; after reinstalling my drivers the UI still didn't appear.
    2. I've tried playing in both DX9 and DX11, both don't work
    3. Playing on another Windows account as an admin just causes TS4 to crash on startup
    4. The first time I launched it on my main account after trying on my test account, Windows bugchecked with the code CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED
    5. Cold booting and using the new account results in the game going far enough to CAS where I can create Sims (but some Sims have broken textures), but the UI is still missing

Also, can you move this to the Technical Issues - PC category?

  • CasualSimmer4096  I can move it, sure, but I'll be answering either way.

The CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED error is concerning, but it doesn't explain the game issues.

Please do a clean uninstall and reinstall of Sims 4, as described in the accepted solution of this thread, which is for a different issue, but the process is the same:

It's important to use Revo and also to reinstall the game into a different folder, one on the root level of the drive of your choice.  Speaking of drives though, do you have a secondary drive, and if so, how is it formatted?  I ask because your dxdiag lists a D drive but with no information about it.  You can see the format and some other basic details by clicking Windows key-X and selecting Disk Management.
