Help Needed: Are the ICYA Chests Broken?

I learned very recently that the best way to move objects that go into the Household Inventory only can be moved into the ICYA chests from DU. However, armed with this knowledge I had my Sim purchase one very recently so that I could pack up his Starlight Accolades and his other trophies from hosting successful Meet & Greets. Problem is, either the chest is broken, or I have simply forgotten the desired methodology.

Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Or can anyone please tell me what I might be doing wrong? I do know when I was changing the house on the lot, a couple of RL months ago now, I was able to slide the Accolades by picking up the shelf they sat on. They were naturally separated once I opened the chest to replace things the way I wanted them in the newly built house, but that's not working at all. Now, the trophies merely sit on TOP of the chest. Face/palm. The Accolades cannot be placed into a Sim's personal inventory at all. But now it seems I can't move them into the chest either. :open_mouth: This is so disappointing. I don't wish to have my Sim purchase replacements. He shouldn't have to. Nor should his parents get to keep what he earned. LOL (Yeah, they paid for his voice lessons, guitar, piano and violin lessons, too. But still. It just doesn't seem right.) They may arbitrarily pack them up into a box and sell them at a garage sale, or worse donate them to the Goodwill, or what have you.

If someone, please, knows of another way for my Sim to keep his hard-earned awards (he's moving into a dorm soon) I would very much appreciate learning the way and how to do it.

Please, and thank you, in advance.

  • @FatTribble23, that's how I started too, back in the TS1 era. Just doing recolors. But once you have the tools needed on your computer, it is really, really hard not to start to tinker with tuning files too. Now, It's been a few years since I've done a recolor, but I do a tweak or adjustment to tuning, or a full blown override, pretty much every few days.

  • @Stormkeep I should have said I've made some simple object recolors, not simple objects. I'm nowhere near that level. I did make some awesome Star Trek Kitties painting recolors, though. Way proud of them.

While poking around on S4S forum, I found a tutorial that is exactly what I'm looking for: How to Tweak a Tuning Mod. So awesome! Thanks for reminding me that S4S is not just a program but a help site.

Sorry for hijacking your thread GalacticGirl. Backing away now!
  • @GalacticGal, I have a lot of those awards too so due to this thread I choose to make an override that makes them LIVE Drag enabled and able to go into a sim's inventory. If you want to use it, you can download it here. That page has all of my "allow in inventory" overrides, the one you'd want is the JE_StarlightAccolade.

It is an override, which means all existing starlight accolade awards will instantly be converted to being able to go into inventory. It also means if you remove the mod, all existing awards will convert back to their normal version. You could just download my mod, use it to move, place them in your new house, and then remove the mod. The only thing you should NOT do is remove the mod while you have awards still in inventory.

It effects the Starlight accolades, not and the fan meet and greet ones which look the same.
Edit: Updated it to include the Fan Meet and Greet accolade awards.
  • Thank you, All of you. I just can't understand why this method worked a couple of months ago, but now it won't. I'm going to have to build that tiny room, place Erik's Accolades in that and upload it to my library, appropriately named Erik's Stuff. LOL Currently, he only has 9 trophies, which includes those Meet & Greet ones. I keep thinking there should be an easier way. I would mod it, but I have never modded anything in my life. This is the gal who was totally overwhelmed by CAW. It's way above my pay grade. ;)

ETA: I built the tiny room hung the shelves housing the Accolades, saved the room, brought it back to the yard to make certain all was intact, which it was, then deleted the 'build' from the backyard. All is well. Thank you, that worked like a champ!

I just checked the tuning file for the accolades with S4S. It doesn't have a special tuning file even, it uses the basic Object_Sculpture tuning. Those cannot be stored in anything other than household inventory.

You could mod it to make it live drag enabled and storeable in sim inventories and/or chests if you wanted to. That's a super-easy override job. It would take all of 3 minutes.
@Stormkeep Could you recommend a good place for tutorials for super simple things like this? I'd be most appreciative! I have experience with S4S and have made some simple objects, but I'd love to be able to finagle (simple) things around to suit my needs.

  • When I want to move household inventory I build a tiny room and place the items I want within it. Hang pictures, awards on shelves etc. Then I save that little room to my library and then place the room on the new lot. I put the items where I want in the place and delete the room walls.

I had to move sims stuff from one save to another and this worked well. It might not in apartments.
  • First, don't use the chests when moving. They are no different from other objects that can hold items in that anything inside the chest in a sim's inventory might no longer be considered as owned by that sim after you move.

Second, being able to store something in a chest requires a flag on the item's tuning file, just like being able to store it in a sim inventory or refrigerator does. It is a separate tag for the chests, which means some things can go into it which can't go into other containers, but it still does require that flag. Which means many, many things can't go inside of it.
If you aren't able to drag and drop something inside, like what you're trying to do, it's not an item that can go inside.
