How do you change the bassinet?

My Goth family had a baby while I was away playing another family. I would love to decorate the baby's room in the new nursery theme, but I can't seem to be able to move the baby from the old style bassinet to the new one. Surely there's a way and I'm just missing it. Thanks in advance!

  • Evict the family, once evicted go into build mode and remove the bassinet and replace it with your desired one, Move the family back in again, your baby will be in the new bassinet in the house where you placed it. Also it is advisable to have three bassinets of your choosing when your sim is pregnant, that way if you have twins or triplets they will go into your bassinets you placed, you can always sell them afterwards if your sim had only one baby πŸ˜‰

This has been asked a lot, so I thought to make a small little tutorial for those who are new with the game. I have combined some tasks into one photo just so it is not too many screenshots.

Start off in the house with the bassinet you don't really want.

Select manage world at the three dots in your right hand top corner. And confirm by saving game to go to manage worlds.

Select the world your sim is living in

Click on the lot your sim is living in. Click on the three dots in your right hand bottom of your screen and select evict there. Confirm it with the pop up that will appear.

click on your lot that you want to change the bassinet and select build in the right lower corner of your screen

Now place the bassinet you want

select manage world from the three upper right dots like you did before and also confirm to save and exit to manage worlds like before

select manage world in your upper right corner of your screen

Go to your sims and select them and then move them out into a lot

You will have to click on the lot then purchase in the lower right corner of your screen and then purchase home furnished with the pop up that will come up

Select your game and wolla when you click on the baby they will be in the new little crib you chose πŸ˜‰

I hope this helps you all ❀️

Very detailed! Amazing! It helped me in your first description, but this is amazing information for newcomers to sims. Thank you for taking the time for all of this!

Great idea!!! Maybe when I set up the decor next time, I'll just have a couple extra bassinets tucked away in the attic. I just hope that doesn't encourage the game to give me triplets more often lol. If you evict, can they still afford their house? I've had situations where once I bulldozed their house and put the house back from my library, they all of a sudden couldn't afford it. Is eviction easier to keep the simoleons the same?

Thanks so much for the ideas!!! This helped tremendously for future game play. I marked it as the solution.

I have not had any issues with them not affording the house, but I guess if it does come up you could use the free realestate cheat. Just enable cheats first with the testingcheats on cheat and then use the  freerealestate on cheat. I think completely placing the house back from the library makes it a whole new purchase, but evicting does not seem to do that. If you look at my screenshots there is a few simoleons difference moving back in and I think it is because the new bassinet was more expensive πŸ˜‰

  • To the best of my knowledge, I'm very sorry to say it isn't possible. You almost have to have the bassinet of preference in the home before the baby is born. With the exception of an alien birth, that is. Perhaps, another player far more clever than me will have an answer for you.

Ah well. At least it's not a long nooboo wait time. Thanks for letting me know!

  • Once the baby is born, it's basically one with the bassinet and you can't switch them out at that point.

It stinks, it actually makes it hard to decorate exactly as you want if you play rotationally unless you play with aging and neighborhood stories off, which is what I do.  I do wish the babies weren't as connected to the bassinets though, not everyone wants to play that way, but I've also had mishaps myself where I'd have everything planned out, decorated and ready for the baby when it's born and then the game would pop twins and I'd suddenly have the perfect specifically chosen bassinet for twin A and a generic bassinet for twin B and it would just throw everything off for me.  And I would end up aging them up rather than enjoying playing them through that life stage just so I could get rid of the bassinets altogether.  I guess that would be another option, just age them up to infant and put in a crib that matches the room decor, but it still wouldn't let you enjoy that newborn life stage.

This happened to me, as well. I had decorated previous to her due date, and then pop, out came triplets with unlatching original bassinets. LOL Ugh. I didn't want to rush the timeline, but oh it annoyed me.

Have you tried holding the baby and while doing that getting rid of the bassinet and putting in the one you want

I'm afraid of accidentally selling my baby, lol. Have you ever tried selling one before? Does it allow you to selll the bassinet and buy a new one without the baby being gone. I haven't tried because I really don't want to loose the babies.
