Stairs, Stairwell, Railing Issue: Good for Toddler NOT for Adult

Howdy!

I've recently hit a snag on my Entertainment Complex Build. It's in the Magnolia retail map.  I do not have any mods. Floors' wall Heights: 1 = short. 2 = medium. 3=tall.

I checked for obstructions. There are none. I had a family with a toddler here to access the party on the 3rd floor. As a group, they can't (even if parent carries the toddler). BUT when I did solo tests, the toddler CAN access the 3rd floor. No problem whatsoever. HOWEVER, even with the adult walking up the stairs, it can ONLY access the 2nd floor. But not the 3rd.

1st-to-2nd floor is L-shaped stairwell. 2nd-to-3rd is a corkscrew stairwell, which I've used before.

I don't why the toddler can get up there but not the adult. I also don't know if this is a bug. I'm seeking explanation and guidance on troubleshooting.

Removing the rails, simplifying the stairwell shape, or removing (non-)bb.moveobject items surrounding the stairwell landing DO NOT help the adult use the stairs to the 3rd floor.

Pics are top-view of stairwell at each floor. Vid is vertical stairwell use test with adult and toddler.

  • CaptnJaq I have had times when corkscrew stairs could be tricky, depending on how I made them and other circumstances. I have also (in the past, not sure if it's still a thing since I have not hat this issue recently in stairs I made/tested) had stair formations I made that for various reasons would work for a child but not an adult (apparently they did not provide enough height clearance on a turn or ascent /descent area. I'e also had times where there was a difference in this height/clearance sensitivity between child and adult in one direction only (for instance where they could ascend the stairs and not descend them. And that's only the tip of the iceberg when trying to be creative with stairs, especially with MOO on, in my experience. However, I am rather stubborn about pushing it and trying new things when building.

That said, would you be willing to share your build to the gallery so I could test it in my game? Just give it some name like 'For Testing Not Download' and share the exact name of the lot here, plus your name in the gallery, and respond here once it's in the gallery?

thank you so much for your wisdom and reaching out, SheriGR!

my name is the same as here: CaptnJaq. Same profile pic too. the lot has been in the gallery for the past few days called AREND Entertainment Complex.

sidenote: when you download the lot, you'll noticed light fixtures, pillars, and wall deco, and sculptures. i went back and forth removing them along with taking out the railing all together.  ...crazily enough I want the IMAX floor to be high cuz it's IMAX lol // in addition, the game does give me the red when the stairwell formation is forbidden.

CaptnJaq Thank you for sharing the lot! Really cool build, btw!

I did test with sims and also found that a toddler could go up and down the stair flights for the two floors. However, an adult could not go up the second set of stairs. I think this is the issue I've had before when twisting at a certain tightness and angle where I assume they cannot clear the height at the twist:

So I made a different set of stairs then the adult sim could go up and down the stairs, and these stairs did fit in the same space:

I did also move the countertop on the floor above a bit since the stairs now exited on the left tile:

However, you mentioned on your gallery post that you are having elevator issues. The first time I tried testing two of the sims went to the top floor elevator (where they were trapped) and two went to the bottom floor elevator (where it gave me an error message that you can only have one elevator. The sims also could not use the door to exit the building... or to enter it. However, removing one elevator did not fix the issue, it just controlled where they would spawn into the building. The only way to leave was to travel by car. Another issue I had was that even when I removed both elevator the sims could not enter the building at all. I even tried making it residential and that didn't allow them to enter the building either, unless I re-added an elevator so they could spawn inside.

I would recommend always, always playtesting as you go. I hope something in all of that will be of use to you in sorting this out.

CaptnJaq Please see my last reply about my tests... and I wanted to add a question. I also got this warning on the lot:

I was discussing with a friend who wondered if you previously had any Mod that was related to elevators. He was wondering if the issues I described that I had (not being able to use outside doors on the building and possibly other things) may be an indication that the lot was bugged/damaged by such a mod that was previously used?
