Snow not sticking to ground during any season but winter during blizzard

I've twice created a blizzard with the weather machine during Spring and Fall and both times it didn't stick.

Is this normal or could it be a bug? Tried Willowcreek and Newcrest.

  • Didn’t they say the Weather machine is for temporary weather effects but will change the weather the next day back to normal?

A lot of the effects are Season based not Weather based.
  • it seems snow can only stick to the ground when you are in winter season and in a world that is considered to have cold winters.
had heavy snowfall and freezing temperature 4 day in a row during autumn and nothing did stick to the ground but even without snow during autumn a light snowfall during winter season is enough to make the ground all white in no time.
  • I have not played winter yet, anywhere but I turned snow on for OS. I lived in Vegas for 20 years and one of the prettiest sights is snow on the palm trees. It hardly ever stuck to the ground for obvious reasons, but it did snow, maybe only once per year.
  • I have noticed this to and it's a little disappointing to be honest. Not trying to compare it to sims 3 but even that had it where the ground would have snow sticking sometimes when it wasn't considered a winter season.

But we asked for realism and realism is it has to be solid and pretty deep frozen ground - which takes weeks - not days in real life. As long as any grass and plant life is alive - means the ground is not frozen and puts out thermal heat that melts snow on contact. Air temps can stay freezing and still not get ground cover for a month or more. That is reality. We get what is called a deep freeze - several times before snow finally starts sticking.

Previous seasons we had in the game was not realistic to me as it snows a lot of times before we get ground cover - believe me. But once we get several deep freezes and the ground becomes rock hard - then snow starts building on the ground. We start getting freezing weather in early October but generally don't start getting snow sticking much before Thanksgiving - yet we get lots of flurry and snow squall activity through out October and November. Most Thanksgivings here we don't have snow yet on the ground even though we may have had numerous snow storms - In fact I can count of one hand the number of times in the last 50 years that we have had sticking snow before Thanksgivings (around Nov 27th) - so that is very realistic. Technically what people call a blizzard in the Sims is not really a Blizzard in real life - that is just heavy flurries where I live - lol, A true Blizzard is considered a Winter Hurricane - they have names even, just like any hurricane and go on for up to two days. Be glad you do see that realism. This past winter we had one a week - every week for about 7 weeks in a row. So sometimes just a taste of realism is better....

I used to play a game that had some pretty realistic Blizzards - Ice Wind Dale - and it was okay to play in for programmed characters - I cannot imagine something like that with the more realistic sims style. I prefer Sims style weather - with just a taste of each season and a fair degree of realism. Our Sims would never survive a true Blizzard.

It's not realistic. A lot of places irl get snow that sticks in spring and fall.
  • We had two blizzards late winter/early spring. In April! 10 inches, with another 14 inch one about 3 weeks later. I've had so many snowy Halloweens it's crazy.

I don’t know what reality you are living in, but the ground doesn’t have to freeze to get a coating of snow. It literally snowed last fall out of nowhere here, and there was a healthy dusting of snow. Sure it didn’t last a long time because it wasn’t cold enough, but to suggest snow does not accumulate on the ground unless the conditions of winter are present is just false. It’s not reality; It’s a bad oversight, or a technical limitation in this pack.
  • It's not realistic at all that snow doesn't stick unless it's winter. Many areas of the world get snow accumulation in Autumn also, as well as Spring. The ground doesn't stay coated as long as it would on a freezing winter day. However, if there is a heavy enough snowfall, snow does accumulate.

What I did hope for is a game that allows me to play my way. If I want snow accumulation in the desert, the game should be able to accommodate that desire. If I want a freak blizzard in the middle of the tropics, I should be able to make that happen, too. I wish that there weren't so many arbitrary decisions hard coded into the game. It's exhausting trying to find ways to work around them all of the time.

Right now, I need to find a way to get rid of Father Winter and the Flower Bunny. I don't want them showing up for anything other than the relevant holidays. Why is everything always so...contrary?

We've got Father Winter and the Flower Bunny, but I can't find a policeman or a firefighter anywhere. ::sigh::
