- It would be nice to actually have 4 slots and then be able to pick from each character.
- davina12215 years agoSeasoned AceI enjoyed picking traits and favorite colors, music, and food in the Sims3. I feel that Sims4 is lacking in traits and some are not available that are in the game. For example, I wish traits like alluring and the great kisser wasn't in the awards area, because by the time my sim gets over 4,000 points, I either am not playing that game, forgot where I wanted to go with it, or new content came and I don't care anymore. We need more traits and the ones in the rewards where we can pick them easily at the beginning of a game.
I would love to pick more traits, plus be able to pick fav color, food, drink, music, and turn on and offs. The way it is now, I don't feel in control of the game and I can't create the story I want right from the get go. - dianed4855 years agoSeasoned AceI know right ? In TS3 there were 5.
Of course there are rewards traits but it’s not the same. I don’t think traits have that much of on influence on sims though. My sims with the “neat” trait will clean more autonomously and will get uncomfortable moodlets in a dirty environment for instance but that’s all and my squeamish sims will get uncomfortable if they see bugs or gross stuff. (if I see a spider on the other hand I’m probably gonna scream, jump away or try to squish it). - BearlyUnbearable5 years agoNew TravelerI would love more trait slots if the traits actually did anything. They're all built around the mood system. The traits in 3 were much more impactful and actually changed the sim's behavior in meaningful ways.
A Neat, Neurotic, Perfectionist sim would want to constantly check the stove and sink for fear of fire or flood, would peep into people's windows, obsessively bathe and wash their hands even at full hygiene, and would mop puddles from the grass even at the park. Can't build a sim like that in 4.
One of the funniest memories I had playing sims 3 was when I first installed the university expansion. The mascot was an inappropriate, flirty, and mean-spirited woman who kept spamming heat of the moment kiss on my sim after every single interaction immediately after they met. She lowered their relationship with each attempt until it got low enough that she started fighting my sim. That kind of stuff doesn't happen in sims 4. - crocobaura5 years agoLegend

I think traits add more to the sim's personality than no traits at all. I also find that the best way to see the traits behaviour in action is to put the sims in opposite environments. So you can pair a neat sim with a slob on a filthy lot. The neat sim will get uncomfortable and will clean everything while the slob will be just fine and make a mess. Would it help you to have a neat sim on a lot that gets dirty a lot? Yes, it would help, but so can help getting a roomba and a cleaning bot. This way you don't need to give your sim a neat trait and can use that slot for maybe another trait. "NorthDakotaGamer;c-17453362" wrote:
How? Every time I use the story feature it gives me unemployed sims with meaningless random traits and useless skills. I can create better stories using MCCC to set up the skills and job position. I have used all the traits in some way, but found them be worthless since all sims act the same. When they offered a story feature, I thought it would truly change type of sim created and it doesn't.
It doesn't work for you? It gave mine a career, a couple of skills (I think it gave about two or three points in three different skills. Brilliant considering they were starting University!) as well as the three traits, plus aspiration. The traits did tie in with the answers I gave to the questions.
I don't use MCCC so I wouldn't know. But the story feature works as intended for me ?♀️- AineOfMay5 years agoSeasoned AceI've given this some thought, and tried mods with more traits, and I truly think 5 trait slots would be perfect. I just wish traits would include negative traits aswell, meaning the current traits were redone to be either positive or negative - it would make sense to have 4 traits from each category plus a negative trait - 5 in total. Then you'd have the bonus traits which are a different thing.
No idea why Maxis haven't done this like 4 years ago. They don't seem to actually care about the depth of the game, so maybe that's why. It's sad though, it would really improve the game SO much if they updated the traits system. - Well with the trait system as it is in sims 4, even 10 trait slot wouldn’t make any difference though in the sims personality. Traits simply don’t matter much in this version.
- Admiral8Q5 years agoSeasoned Ace3 works fine for me. Though maybe 4 at Adult, would be cool. Maybe a 5th at Elder that has to be a 'negative' one. Like 'hates children'.
"Them dang youngings! Don't know anything!" :D
There are a whole bunch of reward traits you can get for the Sim, so that's a huge amount of traits you can get if you want. - DaWaterRat5 years agoSeasoned AceI wouldn't mind 5 trait slots - or, more accurately, two more per age group. The reward traits are nice, but they aren't really character defining. I think I saw something (don't ask me to find it, it was on twitter) from one of the Gurus that there's no technical reason why they can't add more, they just haven't had a project yet where they could logically incorporate adding more slots into the requirements. But I may be misremembering/misunderstanding what they meant.
Now, the traits should also actually have more impact on the sim's autonomous behavior rather than getting buried under emotions all the time, but that's a different issue.
