[MASTER POST] Current and Common Mod/CC Issues

Broken/Updated Mods and CC List Archive

The Broken/Updated Mods and CC lists cover newly reported broken mods/CC, mods that are obsolete because of game updates (usually, these are bugfix mods), updates to mods/CC, creators whose mods are cleared as compatible with a game update, and new bugfix mods. The current list (pinned in this forum) also includes a selected list of previously broken mods — that is, still broken. Each list also includes creator news, such as creators retiring from modding, on temporary absence, adopting others’ mods, doing a major site move or overhaul, or passed away.

A new Broken/Updated Mods topic is started at most game updates because most game updates change enough code to prompt many new necessary updates or to send creators to the files to check if their mods are still compatible. The topic will be regularly updated all the way up until the next one starts. You can subscribe for notificatiosn so you know when there are new additions, or bookmark it to check back regularly.

Major patches with many updated mods are emphasized below. Some mods are updated often; some mods rarely are. If you have a problem with a particular pack or major feature, it can sometimes be helpful to go back to the thread for when that pack or feature was new. However, a mod updated two patches ago could be broken now.

Links for Broken/Updated lists for patches before 1.101 go to the “vanilla” Sims Forums. If you have questions about anything there, please bring those questions back here, to AHQ. Lists before the Werewolves pack are not included here, but most of you shouldn’t be going back that far anyway. If you have older mods that don’t have updates available or aren’t recently cleared as compatible, do a 50-50 on your Mods folder.

Malicious Script Mods and Malware

• Beginning as early as mid-January 2024, we began seeing Sims 4 script mods with malicious executable .exe code hidden in them. Shortly after that, we saw a case of fake mod updates being used to spread malware indirectly. Please see Malicous Script Mods and Malware for what you need to know about this. Mod Access Problems

Unable to locate Mods folder

• common causes: looking in the wrong folder, multiple Mods folders (often caused by OneDrive), folder was deleted or dragged out for testing and you need to relaunch the game to create a new one.

Mods/CC not appearing in game

common causes:

• mods/CC not re-enabled
• antivirus interfering with re-enabling mods/CC
• multiple Mods folders —often caused by OneDrive
• mods not installed correctly — wrong folder, too many folders deep, missing parts of the mod or other required mods, etc.
• corrupted resource.cfg — delete it so the game makes a new one
• default replacement mods/CC and translations not being loaded early enough
• folder called "Mods" inside the Mods folder
• corrupted GameVersion.txt file right after a game update — delete it so the game makes a new one.

File corruption

• One possible cause is changing your folder contents while the game is running. Delete the corrupted files and obtain new versions.

Loading, Saving, and Crashing

Sims 4 loading issues

• Sims 4 not loading – can be caused by many outdated/broken mods/CC, by non-Sims 4 package files, and by GShade
• Sims 4 loads very slowly – mod-related issues include large Mods folders; turning off the initial display of a mods list in Options can help to a point, but you might just need to start reducing your CC quantity
• Sims 4 loads only in DX9 mode – causes include non-updated Build/Buy items by simsi45 and several others; see the list in the current pinned Broken/Updated Mods list, or 50-50 your Build/Buy mods. A batch fix is available in Sims 4 Studio.

World loading issues

• Specific World not loading: For Rent, Horse Ranch, Cottage Living – common causes include outdated versions of T.O.O.L Mod (TwistedMexi), Better BuildBuy (TwistedMexi)
• World Map not loading

Lot/Household loading issues

• Lot/household not loading for Live mode – This can be a game bug, but also can have mod-related causes. NOTE: Some causes will permanently corrupt a lot. Rule out mods before assuming it's a game issue; you might also need to load a different household and reload yours as part of testing.
  • Many outdated mods/CC. In this category, causes include some Build/Buy items, noextramoneyonpromotion (Bienchen), outdated versions of Meaningful Stories, SNB-Bills.
  • Specific to Windows: CC that is not updated for Dirext X 11. Remove the CC, check at the creator's site for updates, or run a batch fix in Sims 4 Studio.
  • Removing some CC/mods. In this category,
    • cookbook/recipe mods removed without first deleting plates and food made with that mod (put the mods back and delete the plates/food);
    • CC tied to Milestones - look for a Last Exception file with "developmental_milestone_tracker.py" (either put the CC back or use the bugfix mod Miletone Fixes by Lumpinou)
    • outdated part-time career/freelance/"gig" mods
• Lot/household loading for Live mode only in DX9 mode – causes include nonupdated Build/Buy items; see the list in the current pinned Broken/Updated Mods list, or 50-50 your Build/Buy mods; a batch fix is available in Sims 4 Studio

CAS loading issues

• endless loading of CAS after patch 1.108 – many causes and solutions covered in this post, generally related to Preferences mods

Saving issues

• Game saves only in DX9 mode – causes include outdated Build/Buy items; see the list in the current pinned Broken/Updated Mods list, or 50-50 your Build/Buy mods; a batch fix is available in Sims 4 Studio
• Crash during saving – causes include outdated/broken mods/CC, having over 8 Sims in a household
• Game doesn't save after 1.114 - causes include Child-and-younger sliders and presets

Crashing

• Last Crash report without crashing – likely cause: skeleton earrings by barbieaiden
• Crashing at the Main Menu – can be caused by removing custom tattoos (including CC) that a Mermaid is wearing. NOTE: This heavily impacts Mods folder testing but you can remove the save for testing too.
  
• Crashing in CAS – can be caused by:
  • outdated mods/CC, including skeleton earrings by barbieaiden
  • having over 8 Sims in a household
• Crash during saving – causes include oudated/broken mods/CC,
• Crash during loading – causes include:
  • oudated/broken mods/CC
  • last exception files ending in .tmp
• Other game crashing – causes include:
  
  • outdated CC, e.g. Aladdin Fabio Hair. However, there are many possible CC causes. If you get no crashing when testing vanilla (without mods/CC), you can use the 50-50 method to isolate problem mods/CC, or start at the pinned Broken/Updated Mods and CC list.   • Sims 3 CC
  • over-high graphics settings for your computer
  • old drivers
  • old versions of Mac OS
  • not enough RAM
  • incorrect Gshade/Reshade installation

Error Codes and Last Exceptions (LEs)

Error codes after loading

• 102:122:4809cdd1 – causes of 102 errors generally include wrongly installed mods (recheck installation instructions); wrongly catalogued build/buy CC on households with University-pack Roommates,ky-e/Llama Mama Selective Attraction
• 109:dd2b8c5
• 110:f3cd3c7a

• 111:41812468… – known causes include removing cookbook/recipe mods – reinstall and delete plates/food (if none are in the fridge, you might be able to just use Build mode)

• 135:4924646b
• 135:eaddea49
• 123:20ece5dd – with Restaurants, one possible cause is Starry Eyed Collection Banquet Table (coolspear1)
• 140:645fba83:72c0b567 – often caused by outdated/broken event mods

Last exception (LE) files

If you have a "last exception" file or a similar error report from Better Exceptions or MC Command Center, you can find some info there that might point to mod/CC-caused problems.

• LEs in general – mod-related causes include duplicate files, missing pack requirements, broken/outdated mods. One cause of duplicate files is file-renaming by
• LEs on game loading re. "read only" – this is mod-related (after patch 1.105) but harmless
• LE and Sims in household disappear – Podcaster Career (QuietPriestess); remove this
• buff_Motives_Hunger_Starving_Ghost – known causes include outdated versions of roBurky mod Emotional Inertia (update this!), but also several package files, mostly body presets, that have it merged into them. Some that have been identified have creator names attached: HolisticSimmer, euno, and [AS].

• career_base. py… current_level_tuning – known causes include removing custom school/career mods: put the mods back in or try a “Save As”

• degree_tracker – this is sometimes mod-related and sometimes a game issue but usually caused by cheats; the linked thread includes instructions on how to use MC Command Center to fix Sims producing this error if it is caused by mods or cheats
• developmental_milestone_tracker – can indicate that a CC object tied to a Milestone was removed: either put the object back in the build or use the bugfix mod Miletone Fixes by Lumpinou
• drama_schedule_service failed, DramaNodeScoringBucket not 97 – causes include having removed freelance custom careers or phone invitation mods; this error rcan generally be fixed with a “Save As”

• fishing_location_component.py – caused by having a mod for a pack you don’t own, including files for Somik & Severinka - Realistic Cooking Mod (EA Override files), Srsly's EA Adjustments (New Prices version)

• guid64 – known causes include outdated career or university mods

• holiday_service.py – often caused by removing a custom holiday; try a Save As to clear the error.

• load_from_persistable_sim_career_proto – known issues include removing school mods; try a “save as” in-game or play with the mod again.

• mc_career_dlg – caused by using the MC Command Center legacy version (which is for the game as it was in 2019), not the current version; delete the mod and reinstall the latest version

• min_lod_value – causes include outdated/broken custom traits; wrongly installed Andirz mods

• picker_interaction.py – causes include outdated PandaSama x Ravasheen toy kitchen; Piggy Banks, Oil Diffuser (Ravasheen); some Kritical objects
• restaurant_zone_director.py – mod-related causes include CC furniture in Restaurants

• scumbumbo_snippet – known causes include outdated versions of the SnootySims Camera mod; delete and redownload

• should_refresh_thumbnail – known causes include outdated Occult Hybrid Stabilizer/Unlocker mods or outdated 18+/NSFW mods

• state_py with _do_first_time_state_added_actions – mod-related causes include Custom Music Channels Compatibility Fix by Staberinde (delete this)

• trait_tracker – often caused by outdated custom traits, custom aspirations, and complex mods that include traits
• tunable_model.py, get_model – often caused by having recipes but missing the recipe enabler mod, having an outdated recipe enableer mod, or missing required packs
• tunable_perf (and also often TuningAttrCleanupHelper) – This error is caused by mods that were updated for a problem after Dec. 5, 2023 (1.103) ... and then Maxis fixed it on their end on Feb. 27, 2024 (1.105), so that mod fix now causes an error on game loading. This error is not an indication that there are other reasons the mod is incompatible with 1.105, but there could be other reasons. No error file can point you to which mods are the cause. Any script mods predating Feb. 27, 2024 should be checked for updates.

UI Issues

• General UI issues – known causes of issues happening in many places after a game update include mods that edit the entire UI, such as mods by vyxated, and mods changing the game font; remove these until there's an updated version
• In Live mode: icons at bottom right blank/distorted like below – known cause: outdated version of UI Cheats Extension
• UI Issues: Sim profile broken – causes include AD(H)D Trait (FiendMods) - delete this mod
• Main Menu and the Gallery showing “wwwwwwwwww” instead of text – causes include outdated Color Sliders (thepancake1 and MizoreYukii), 15 Clubs Per Sim (King Zace), UI Cheats Extension (weerbesu), Better BuildBuy (TwistedMexi), More Columns in CAS (weerbesu), CC wrench icon mods; NOTE: This can also be a game issue, not mod-related! See Main Menu has www when no household is selected | EA Forums - 11951974 
• World map has overlying text – causes include UI Cheats Extension (weerbesu), Better BuildBuy (TwistedMexi)

• In Live mode: Icons at top right like below, after 1.105 – known causes include outdated Better BuildBuy - update this

• In Live mode, top and bottom right: known causes include outdated mods changing UI color  - update these

• Live mode icons, top left as below or similar: Known cause: outdated version of UI Cheats Extension (weerbesu)

• World missing in World selection: For Rent – common causes include outdated All Worlds Are Residential (Zerbu), World reorganization mods

• Cooking menus empty. Known causes: Outdated versions (after Oct 1, 2024) of Color Sliders, thpancake1 and MizoreYukii's Minimalist Main Menu, 15 Clubs Per Sim, and meat-ice-creammm’s gender-neutral cas menu icons. Update these mods.

Live Mode Issues

Live Mode/CAS Sim appearance

• Aliens missing heads – caused by outdated CAS mods, especially no-eyelash mods
• Distorted/broken faces – generally caused by outdated eyelash-related CC, outdated presets (especially for Toddlers), conflicting default replacement CC (multiple for same body part), Reshade MXAO shader. Note: you might need to also edit the Sim in CAS with a Maxis face preset.
• Faceless Sims – caused by outdated CAS (update or find alternatives), or by Sims 4 Studio batch fixes run on default replacement CAS (redownload CC)
• Blonde streaks in CC hair
• Red and white Sims on a Mac
• Shiny Sims with texture overlay
• Stretching/disappearing limbs and similar Live mode glitches – causes include outdated height sliders; look for updates or alternatives
• After 8 August 2024 patch, alpha CC eyelashes don't fit properly on eyes

Live Mode gameplay issues

• Can't access personal inventory – causes include TwistedMexi's Always Free Build - remove for Live mode play; this mod is intended for players who only build
• Can’t click on Sims
  • often caused by mods not being fully installed (files missing, etc.) - check the creator's installation instructions.
  • Can also be caused by having old and new versions of a mod in your Mods folder; make sure to delete old files when you update.
  • Can be caused by your game not being updated before you updated mods, or a game update not having been complete; check for a game patch or run a Game Repair
• Can't Create Jewelry at Crystal Creations Gemology Table
• For Rent Residential Rental lot functionality broken – known causes include Twisted Mexi's All Scenarios, which is not compatible with RR lots (and which is currently broken); SimRealist's SNB Bills, which prevents rent payment
• Calendar Events broken – known causes include TwistedMexi's TOOL Mod, which you can remove when you're not in Build/Buy mode.
• Icons broken except in DX9 mode – many mods' custom icons need updating for DirectX 11; if these are icons you need to see for functionality, switch back to DirectX 9, update your mods, and/or try a Sims 4 Studio batch fix
• ims wear inappropriate clothes when nude – causes include wrongly tagged CC (fix in Sims 4 Studio), and the problem can persist if a Copy Outfit mod was used, even after CC is removed. FIXES: reset the nude outfit using MC Command Center's Dresser module or Other Mods - Reset Bathing Outfit by LittleMsSam.
• Aspiration has only last stage available – This is the intended behaviour of the mod Lifetime Aspirations by k-ye (broken) or NC4T.
• Cooking missing categories or ingredient options – causes include outdated cookbook/recipe mods, or those not yet updated for the new categories introduced in fall 2023
• Cooking UI is empty – causes include outdated Color Sliders (thepancake1 and MizoreYukii), 15 Clubs Per Sim (King Zace)
• Counters, doors, and possibly other furniture missing – causes include outdated 18+/adult mods; check with the creator for updates
• Food stall and Festival vendors sell only produce – causes include outdated custom food stalls, outdated playable NPC career mod. NOTE: Althought this is an old issue and you're unlikely to currently have outdated custom food stalls, if you do get this error, delete the stalls before saving; outdated custom food stalls have been known to cause save corruption.
• Horses can’t be interacted with – causes include PlantSim Inheritance v1-A (LowMotivesWarning/GOOD_BOYgoneBAD), Be a Little Serious (Onebeld) - delete these
• Horses can’t be ridden – causes include outdated mods for belly size, pregnancy walks - updates available for most
• Horses missing in relationship panel – causes include No More Relationship Culling (Neia) -; replace with alternatives or let the game manage the relationship culling for game performance.
• Infant crib missing option to upgrade crib mobile
• Infant gameplay fails – causes include Fixed Nyx’s Enhanced Aliens (LowMotivesWarning/GOOD_BOYgoneBAD), Children can live alone after all elders died (toprapidity) - delete these
• Infants have Occult eyes
• Infants missing option to put in back carrier
• Infants stretching
• Non-Werewolfs have Werewolf idles [adult mod related]
• Objects are invisible – causes included outdated CC, e.g. Aladdin Fabio Hair
• Sims can’t shave – causes include Faster Mirror Interactions (Mercury Disaster) - remove this mod
• Sims won’t eat – causes include outdated CC, outdated phone mods - use the 50-50 method to identify the cause
• UI issues: no Sims panels at all

• Sims disappear in live mode. Known cause: Outdated occult hybrid mods after patch 1.109. Go get an updated version and read the installation instructions for changes.

Live Mode lagging

• In Live mode – mod-related causes include having too much CC in the Mods folder, having over 250 script mods, duplicate mods, outdated/broken mods including staff auto-spawning mods by SimplifiedModding. Do a full vanilla test to rule out mods as your cause. Get support for general game lag in Game Issues .

Build/Buy Mode Issues

• Catalog categories show all items
• Blank icons and glitching – causes include outdated Better BuildBuy (TwistedMexi), UI Cheats Extension (weerbesu)
• Can't find CC (etc.) in Build/Buy – if you use Better Build/Buy (TwistedMexi, make sure that you have enabled it properly. Check the creator's instructions.
• [For Rent] Can’t assign rooms to different units
• Household inventory not available – current known causes include MC Command Center: turn off the Auto Free Build option in the mod.
• Search bar crashes in Build/Buy mode – caused by broken CC, including some by kia_dabarbie and SovaSima
  
• Build mode empty catalog – known causes: outdated versions of TwistedMexi’s More Rentals mod and Color Sliders by thepancake1 and MizoreYukii

CAS Mode Issues

• Can’t exit CAS – common causes include outdated Color Sliders (thepancake1 and MizoreYukii), 15 Clubs Per Sim (King Zace)
• Color options missing or not changing – cause: outdated More Columns in CAS (weerbesu)
• Blank icons and glitching – common causes include outdated Color Sliders (thepancake1 and MizoreYukii), 15 Clubs Per Sim (King Zace), More Columns in CAS (weerbesu), CC wrench icon mods; game updates can also cause this because of aspiration, like/dislike (preference), and trait mods
• Entire UI disappears
• No X to remove item
• Crashing in CAS – can be caused by outdated mods/CCincluding skeleton earrings by barbieaiden; incorrect Gshade/Reshade isntallation
• CAS fails to load after patch 1.108
• UI for sexuality etc. becomes a single list without romantic boundary options after patch 1.108
• Sim names change to be the same in CAS after patch 1.108

Gallery and Gallery Download Issues

• Gallery doesn’t load – causes include outdated Color Sliders (thepancake1 and MizoreYukii), 15 Clubs Per Sim (King Zace)
• Downloaded Household is missing members – known causes include outdated Slice of Life by KawaiiStacie, outdated/broken adult mods
• Downloaded lot size 999x999 – known causes include the lot having had a custom venue type for a mod you don’t have

Issues That Seem Mod/CC Related but Aren’t

This is a small selection of issues that tend to come to Mod/CC Issues but are actually game bugs or technical issues. Some of these can be caused by mods; please test first by dragging your Mods folder to your desktop, deleting the file called localthumbcache, and checking in your save again. Some mod-caused issues will need to you to do something else to clear the effects — edit a Sim in CAS (for some CC issues), a "Save As", to switch households and back, or something similar. Some can corrupt a save but a new save will be fine.

Updated December 10, 2024

• Bottoms of buildings missing after bulldozing
• Codes or blank bubbles instead of text without mods
• Doors visible with walls down
• Game Data Incomplete, grey llamas, red and white sims, broken textures on a Mac, without Mods
• High School prom doesn’t happen without mods
• Lagging in Live mode without mods – causes include too many unhoused Sims suddenly generated, social features turned on in Options, lots with too many interactable items for your computer specs, syncing software running during gameplay, large Tray/Screenshots/Saves folders. • LEs: posture errors – typically results from Sims having a tough time negotiating their way around objects
• Loading issue: lots or Worlds fail to load without mods (note: this also assumes you also couldn't get into the lot/world with mods and that you didn't remove mods/CC just before the problem started; if your problem started by mod removal, head back up to mod issues!) – [MASTER THREAD] Crashing and Endless Loading
• Lot type stuck on Residential Rental
• Trait slots are missing in CAS.
