Lost All Saved Games and Gallery Households After Latest Sims 4 Update – Help!

After my latest update — 25.09.24 — of The Sims 4 on PC (Mac) via the EA app, all of my saved games are gone, and it’s as if I’ve never played before. I’ve done many updates in the past without any issues since they were required before playing, but now, all my saved games and all the households and lots that I've created and saved in the gallery over the years are missing. That’s 5 years of active playing, completely gone…

I’m not a tech person, and I’m struggling to find help on the forum. Unfortunately, EA Help has been useless — they shut down my chat and case before I got any real assistance. In the end, they just told me to try here. Is there anyone who can help guide me through this and fix it? Please, help!

Please open Terminal (Applications > Utilities) and copy and paste the following command then hit Enter/Return:

    find ~ -type f -name "*Slot_*" 2>/dev/null

After a little while it will return the results of the search. You'll know when it's finished searching because the command prompt will reappear. Please copy and paste the results in a post here.

If you're not getting any results from that search, and you've let it run for a good 10 minutes or so, try this one:

    find / -type f -name "*Slot_*" 2>/dev/null

If you don't get any results from that it means you've managed to inadvertently wipe all your save games. This would have been user error, the game and EA App/Origin would not have done this.

this is a shortened version of all the random things that loaded.... everything that came up is very similar.

    find / -type f -name "*Slot_*" 2>/dev/null

hi i dont know if this will work or if ive just got lucky but same thing happened to me and i thought it was my mods and cc, it wasnt, i just went into documents > ea > sims 4> saves> then did command a so that all my game saves were highlighted, then i right clicked and pressed download. i didnt do the terminal thing but ive just reopened sims and some of my files are here now after being downloaded!! hope this is what makes it work bc when i go into my saves it has the little cloud download button so i just assumed.

  • mccallm none of the results are random, they may seem to you but I assure you they're not. With the limited info you have supplied I can see that you have a couple of issues due to user error. The game will only load saves and all user data from the Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts. If you have moved this folder, which you have to the Desktop, or have iCloud interfering with the Documents folder, which you do, this results in the game recreating the Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts when you launch the game because there is no Sims 4 folder in Documents > Electronic Arts.

All the files ending .verX are backup saves, I'm ignoring those for now.

You have a Sims 4 folder on your desktop:

    /System/Volumes/Data/Users/madelynnmccall/Desktop/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/saves/Slot_00000004.save
    /System/Volumes/Data/Users/madelynnmccall/Desktop/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/saves/Slot_00000003.save
    /System/Volumes/Data/Users/madelynnmccall/Desktop/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/saves/Slot_00000002.save

the game will not load user data from this location for the reason explained above. Move it into Documents > Electronic Arts.

    iCloud is interfering here:

    /System/Volumes/Data/Users/madelynnmccall/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~CloudDocs/Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 4/saves/.Slot_00000004.save.icloud

i had a few different saves in different locations but i was able to pinpoint the saves before the update and downloaded it too ... this made the EA app update Sims 4 again and it reverted to the already new game after i lost it all. :(

The solution is clearly marked in green in the opening post. If you need further help you have to provide the information asked for before anyone can help you.
