Re: Shadowy Box Glitch Sims 4

@Bluebellflora Following those steps did get rid of the shadowy boxes under my sims, but the legs of my male sim are still shadowy for some reason, while my female sim doesn't have the shadow...

I'm a little embarrassed... it looks like the shadow on my male sim was actually just a sun tan. I pressed shift and clicked on my sim, then "sunbathing options," then clicked "no tan," and his legs went back to normal. My issue is resolved!

I'm having the same issue as everyone else. I haven't tried the solution yet, but if turning off SSAO gets rid of the box, does it affect anything else in the game, like shadows that are supposed to be there? Thanks for all the help.

@marcelle_evans As far as I can tell, turning off SSAO simply fixes the problem, with no other side effects.

The problem seems to have returned. Now, even with SSAO turned off, black boxes follow my sims when lighting is set to high. The boxes are not as shadowy as they are when SSAO is enabled, but they are still clearly visible. 

The shadows aren't as dark for me, but they're still there.

Doing all this:

1. Right click on the game in your Applications folder and select Show Package Contents.
2. Navigate to the Contents folder then open the GraphicsRules.sgr file with TextEdit
3. Hold down CMD and F to bring up the search box and enter SSAO
4. There should be four results of SsaoEnabled that come up
5. Make sure the value next to it is false for each instance: 

   prop $ConfigGroup SsaoEnabled false

6. Close TextEdit and load your game to see if you still have weird shadows.

Doesn't work for me, it just makes the square shadow a lot lighter, and the false always changed back to true on its own, I'm surprised that they haven;t fixed this problem. 

Hi! I got rid of my problem a while back but today i edited my graphics and it came back. I then had a long chat with EA on how to fix it (i repaired my game, removed all cc, got a new game, moved my saves) and it’s still slightly there if i zoom in an out). Can you please help me fix it. btw all of my SSAO are enabled false so idk why it won’t work

Could you please post a screenshot of the contents of the folder? Mine looks like this:

As I play through Origin I can’t seem to find a specific Sims 4 file, only Origin, and this is all I get.

Everyone playing a legal copy of the game plays through Origin.

The game is installed in one of your Applications folders. Please look in them for the game, or you can do a Spotlight search on your Mac for the Sims 4. On the Mac I am currently on I have the game installed in the system Applications folder:

If it is not in Macintosh HD > Applications please look in your user Applications folder.

Hi, I used to have this problem and SSAO fixed it very quickly. About a week ago i changed my graphics and it came back. Now I don’t know how to get rid of it because SSAO is all enabled false. Is there a particular graphic settings so you can’t see the shadow? This is bothering me so much it’s making me not want to play. 

Hey I'm on Mac, and I can't find the graphics folder. I looked through almost every file, is there anyway you could help me out? I saw this was from like 2019 so there may have been changes on how to fix this glitch, thank you.

This worked! Thank you so much. Also, I have another problem which might just be a problem with my computer or Macs all together. Anyway my game would glitch for like .2 seconds every now and then. So it's not a big problem, but if there is any way I could fix this please let me know. I've watched a youtube video of somebody reviewing how good sims 4 work on Mac book airs and iMac, (I have a MacBook pro) and they said that there was glitching with the iMac desktop, so thats what lead me to wondering ifs this is a Mac problem or not. Anyway, Thank you again.

So I don't really know how to explain things, but the screen will just blink to black for like less than .5 seconds and after that everything goes back to my normal game play. It happens whenever I play. The "glitch" will be different in every world too. Most of them are the same, but some happen more than other worlds, other ones happen less, and other worlds will have it blink longer. If that makes sense. It doesn't effect anything except the fact that it just does that randomly and kind of annoys me.

I'm playing the normal version the of sims 4.

I am not running any anti viruses. 

Yes, I have repaired my game, as well as Un-installing origin and reinstating it. I have also Un-installed and reinstalled the sims 4. 

I have also removed all of my mods and it still occurred.
