Sims 4 storage

I'm getting a new laptop soon with 1-2TB of storage and 16 core CPU. I want to play the sims 4 on it. Yes it's a MacBook lol. I know that MacBooks are not recommended for gaming at all but I'm really getting this laptop for school and thought to try out the sims anyway. I also seen that this laptop is good for gaming but not sure how true that is. It's the m4 pro max chip that comes in this laptop and I'm hoping it would work with the sims. I'm new to gaming on a laptop and not sure how much storage or ram I would really need for the sims itself. Like for the game, packs, mods, etc. I have not gotten the laptop yet and was just wanting to know how much storage and ram I would really need. Also, can I download just the game on my laptop and store the packs and things like that on an SSD? Thanks in advance.

  • clarice1200  Even the basic M4 chip is more than powerful enough to run Sims 4 on ultra graphics settings.  A Pro or Max chip would be overkill, not that that's a bad thing.  You also don't need more than 16 GB RAM.  At the moment, all Sims 4 content together takes up just over 60 GB storage, and your saves would take up a bit more, but you wouldn't need to allocate more than about 100 GB total unless you had a large collection of custom content.

You can't install only the base game in one location and the packs in another.  You can keep the game itself on one drive and your user content (saves, mods and cc, etc.) on another drive, if you want.  But your internal drive is going to be much faster than any consumer-grade external drive, so it would be best from a performance standpoint to keep all your Sims 4 data on the internal drive.  If you manage to use up most of the 1-2 TB of storage you're getting, other data can go on an external, or you can reinstall the game there later.  But since you haven't bought the computer yet, it would be most convenient to simply get all the internal storage you'll need so you don't have to deal with an external drive at all.
