SIMS_4_V2_PC_CLIENT folder appeared in Mac Home folder

After patching Sims 4 to 1.115.216.1230 this folder has appeared in my Home directory:

with the version number at the main menu being correct but [SDK: UNKNOWN] added:

There is only one file, appears to be JSON, in the folder and nested folders that contains the following information (I've tidied it up into a more readable format):

Trashing the SIMS_4_V2_PC_CLIENT folder just forces the game to recreate a new one when next launched. I have no idea what the contents of this file are but it looks like some kind of data collection I think? If so, why does it still recreate when I have Share Usage Data disabled in Game Options?

Or is it completely unrelated?

Should the game be creating data in the User account Home folder? I don't think it should. Or maybe this has always been there but hidden and the latest patch unhid it?

I can stop the game creating it by changing permissions on the PROD folder in SIMS_4_V2_PC_CLIENT > 0 > eadp-sdk > persistence to Read Only for my user account (right-click on PROD folder, > Get Info, change to Read Only at the bottom of the info window under Sharing & Permissions).

  • This has now been fixed in the 1.116.202.1230 patch today. When you launch the game for the first time after updating the SIMS_4_V2_PC_CLIENT folder should be automatically removed from the Home folder. If it's still there make sure the folder has read/write permissions so the update can remove it (see opening post above).

If anyone is interested, the folder has now been relocated to ~/Library/Application Support.

  • These nested folders appear for me too, even with Share Usage Data and Online Social Features Access disabled, and even with the EA App in offline mode and my computer completely offline.  However, the PROD folder that normally contains the file in question is empty when my computer is offline, though not when it's online while the App is offline and the game options are disabled.

I also see the SDK: UNKNOWN entry after my game version.  This is where DX9 or 11 would be listed in Windows, so is it possible that this bit is related?  Macs don't use DirectX runtimes, after all.
