Help, game won't load passed start up screen.

For the last week, whenever I start the game, it doesn't load passed the start up screen with all the texts that change before the main menu. I've updated my pc and Nvidia, I've tried restarting, I've deleted whatever the Google search results suggested, nothing has been helping. I have no mods.

When I had this exact error, it wasn't enough to just change the 'fullscreen' property to 0. I had to change all three properties that included the word 'fullscreen' to 0 and most importantly: you need to save your options.ini file file after you did that, otherwise your changes won't be applied! This then led to my game starting in the smallest unplayable window, but once you get it to load past the start up screen you can go into the game settings and change it back to fullscreen, which should now work. For me this worked and I was able to play after that, so maybe it does for you too! :)

  • witchywolf931  What is the exact location of Options.ini?  Please right-click the file, select Properties > General, and list the Location.  You can write [username] instead of your actual username, but leave the rest intact.  The idea is, I'd like to know whether this location is inside a OneDrive folder, or perhaps somewhere else other than the standard, in case the game can't write to this folder properly.

  • witchywolf931  Open Options.ini, which you can do by double-clicking it; the file should open in Notepad, which is fine.  Click ctrl-F and enter fullscreen as the search term.  You'll see a few entries, but the one you want is just called fullscreen , no other characters.  It will likely be set to 1, meaning On; setting it to 0 will disable fullscreen mode and thereby force windowed mode.

So I ended the tasks for ArmouryCrate. I tried to open that app but even that wouldn't fully load for me. As far as I know. that app is good for laptops, which is what I play on.
I couldn't figure out how to do the fullscreen suggestion, I got to options.ini and documents. Are you able to dumb it down for me lol?

  • witchywolf931  Some ArmouryCrate software is crashing, so please try shutting down all related apps in the Task Manager before you try to play.  Check the background processes list too.

If that doesn't help, try to force the game to open in windowed mode.  Open Options.ini, in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, search for fullscreen , and set it to 0 (zero).

  • witchywolf931  If you haven't already, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just start a new save and see how it runs, that is if you can get that far.

If this doesn't or didn't help, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
