My game closes down in build mode

Hello everyone. I've been having this issue for the last couple of weeks in which my sims 4 game closes down unexpectedly when I'm building a specific lot, and also sometimes during gameplay when there's too much stuff going on like a party for example.

Here are the things I've tried so far:

  1. Deleting caché
  2. Repairing the game
  3. Updating the game
  4. Deleting the Electronic Arts folder and playing with a completely clean new game
  5. Changed the settings to laptop mode
  6. Checked if my drivers are updated (they are)
  7. Playing without my Mods folder
  8. Playing with a different save
  9. Some other things I can't remember any more

I really hope someone can help me out, I must have searched the whole Internet for a solution and nothing seems to work. Btw my computer is practically brand new too, bough at the end of August and I hadn't had any problems till recently. I attach my DxDiag too.

Thank you so much in advance!!!

  • hcldh59xgf5e  Are you saying that one type of crash is when you try to place one particular lot?  If so, that lot may be broken and unrelated to any issues with your laptop.  So please don't try that lot again, at least not now.

Is the game still crashing randomly in a new save with no mods or custom content present, and when you're not trying to place a lot?  Please let me know either way.

You also don't need to use laptop mode.  Despite its name, it's really only for low-end machines that are at or below the game's minimum requirements.  Your laptop can handle ultra graphics settings.

Thanks so much for your fast reply!

Yes, it crashes everytime I try to edit that one particular lot, so I decided to stop trying. I also have similar issues with other lots as big as that one, for example when I try to get into another lot it just never loads. I should point out that these lots worked perfectly fine a couple of weeks ago.

The thing is that these crashes happen when I'm doing other things as well. I haven't tried to play normally with no mods because I never now when it will crash, it sometimes happens after hours of playing or 15 minutes, so I couldn't really try that. What I did is try to use those lots and others that i had trouble with without any mods and with other "clean" saves. The problem continued. I hope I make sense.

Also, I disabled the laptop mode.

  • hcldh59xgf5e  One reason some lots don't load is the Off the Grid challenge, which broke in the September patch.  So if any of your lots use the challenge, load them in Build mode and remove it.

If this doesn't help, let me know whether the lots load in Build mode at all, and if sims live on them, whether you can load the sim households if you move them to a different lot.  This is just for testing; you don't need to save your progress.

Please don't use any mods or cc while testing, even if you put them back afterwards.

I have never heard of the Off the Grid challenge, so I assume none of my lots use it. The problem is that I can't get into build mode for the lot that won't load. It's not a residential lot, so no sims live in it, it's a museum. I can get in build mode for the other lot that makes my crash (also a museum),  but it crashes after a minute or so. This happens no matter if I use mods or not.

  • hcldh59xgf5e  Some lots have the OtG challenge by default, but probably not museums.

Please go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 and delete any lastexception files you see there.  (This is important—get rid of older files that may contain stale data.)  Load the game, try to load one of these lots, still with your Mods folder removed, and see whether you get another LE.  If you do, please attach it to a reply here.  It's fine as a .txt file, but you'll probably need to delete its first line.

I did that, and I didn't get any LE but a Last Crash document. I don't know if it's useful but I'll upload it anyway

  • hcldh59xgf5e  I can't really make anything of lastcrash files.  I'm sure there are people at EA who understand them, but those people aren't usually involved in individual troubleshooting.

In your case, let's force Sims 4 to use your dedicated graphics card all the time, if you haven't already.  Right-click the desktop and select the Nvidia Control Panel, choose Manage 3D Settings > Program settings, find TS4_x64 on the list, and select the high-performance Nvidia processor.  Repeat for TS4_Launcher_x64.

To be thorough, please also reinstall the 2022 VC++ runtimes, which Sims 4 uses.  Hit Windows key-i, select Apps, scroll down to the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables, click on any version from 2015 or later, and select Uninstall.  Don't touch the older versions.  You can download the newest runtimes directly from Microsoft:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-US/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

You'll need both the x86 and x64 versions of the 2015-2022 runtimes, but you can skip the ARM version, which is for a different class of device.  Restart your computer after installing and before trying to play.

Please first test one of the problem lots in a new save, so the same lot but whatever EA placed there by default.  If that's fine, you can test a saved build of yours, or the same lot in one of your existing saves, whichever you prefer.
