    Thank you!

I've tried the suggestions from the previous posts, but had the strangest experience. I've tried repairing the game via the EA App, which changed my game language to Czech. The problem is - I can't speak Czech, I've never played my game in Czech and I'm a long way from the Czech border.

A household member helped me change the language back through some general Windows thingamajigs (registry or something? He found the file, manually changed the name to en_US, which was my desired language).

The game is still missing bubbles, item names, event tasks, notifications, prompts and UI descriptions from EP13 and I am scared to try repairing the game again since EA App turned out to be very unreliable.

I don't know what to do anymore.

@Hikari38  Please describe exactly what your household member did to change the language back to English, or have him describe it.  The issue here is that the text strings are missing or corrupt, and repairing may not have downloaded the correct English-language strings considering the EA App switched you over to Czech.

@puzzlezaddict @Hikari38 I avoided repairing the TS4 because the EA app changed my game language from English to Czech last time. I repaired the game using EA app. The language of the game has changed from English to Czech. Do I have to uninstall and reinstall the game again? The only consolation is that there are others with this problem.

What he did was find the Windows Registry Editor (typed "regedit" in the system search bar) and then found the tab HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Maxis\The Sims 4. Then he found a file under the name of "Locale". Right clicked it, chose the option to "Modify...". A window popped up and there he found the "value data" section, where he typed en_US and the game language changed back to English, without having to reinstall the entire game.

I bought the base game as a physical copy and I believe I used the "traditional" way till everything moved to digital copies only. Then I would purchase the following DLC via Origin. Growing Together is the first EP I bought via EA App, since I was forced to migrate.

@Hikari38 Interesting that this worked. I've tried changing the language with the registry and have failed so far but maybe cause yours was an odd language change, it was possible this way.

    Thanks for checking back.
  • @Sylmos  Unfortunately, the only fixes for this issue are repairing and reinstalling.  But if the only affected items are from Growing Together, you could try deleting and reinstalling just that pack.  Each one has a folder inside [install location]\The Sims 4; Growing Together's folder is EP13.  So delete that, clear the EA App's cache:

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/

Restart your computer, and download the pack again.

If you still don't have the proper text strings for Growing Together, please open that EP13 folder and post a screenshot of the contents.

    @puzzlezaddict

I have all of the text strings from Growing Together, which are not in English but still in Czech. To have The Sims 4 in English, I have to uninstall and reinstall the game again, which takes a lot of time because of the many add-ons. With the next update that will cause repairing the Sims 4, will the EA app change my game language from English to Czech again?

  • @Sylmos  I thought Sims 4 was currently in English, and you were just missing the text strings for Growing Together.  If that's not the case, then yes, you'll need to reinstall.

Patching doesn't necessarily force the game to repair.  I don't know what will happen with the next patch, but I did flag the issue of repairing changing the game language, so maybe it'll be fixed before you need to patch or repair again.

I've followed the instructions, deleted the folder, cleared EA App cache, rebooted, installed GT again. The Growing Together text is still missing. The screen of my EP13 folder is in attachment. The strings file in English seems to be there, but perhaps it's still not the working one.

@puzzlezaddict I was missing text strings in English from Growing Together. As suggested, I repaired the game using the EA app. After the fix, my game changed the language from English to Czech.

Thank you for being so helpful. Since introducing the EA app, I have needed assistance with TS3 and TS4. You answered every question I had on EA Answers HQ. I want you to know that I appreciate it.

@puzzlezaddict I see that @Hikari38 has Windows in Polish and wants to play TS4 in English, and the repair changed her language to Czech. Exactly like me. Is it a coincidence?

  • That's true, the help here has been wonderful and I really appreciate your assistance as well. This is my first time here and I am very grateful for your work!

@Hikari38 and @Sylmos  I'm not sure exactly what's going on here, but I'll ask around.  In the interim, please make sure that the language for Sims 4 within the computer's registry is still en_US and has not reverted to something else.  Please also make sure the EA App itself is running in English.

  • Same thing happened to me but my game is stuck in Czech even when manually changing it via registry. And I had the same Growing Together but as you. Pls help

@StarlaShine20  You need to uninstall Sims 4 and reinstall it in the language of your choice.  Editing the registry doesn't usually fix the language issue, and we don't know of another way to switch languages without reinstalling.

I did do that, but it didn't work. When I went into the download settings the only thing that's showing up is Czech, Polish and Russian. It's really strange that this is happening.

@StarlaShine20  This has been happening more often recently.  It seems that some players have had the language-locked version added to their accounts for no apparent reason, often on top of the global version that was already present.  Other players, at least some of them, have been able to contact EA customer support and either have the language-locked version removed from their accounts, so please try that.

    https://help.ea.com/en/contact-us/

I'd strongly suggest using live chat rather than email, as you'll get a much faster response and probably a better one.  If you don't have the option for live chat, change the location in your browser window to U.S. or U.K., or choose a slightly different category of issue.

Do you think I could try contacting EA customer support before I try reinstallation and find out if I've been region locked too?

I'm scared to touch anything in case it's the wrong language again and I don't have time to reinstall everything this week. I've been playing with no Growing Together text since Saturday and it really takes away from the experience.

@Hikari38  That assumes that customer support would give you an accurate answer.  Much easier would be to install the EA App on a different computer, sign into your account, and try to download Sims 4.  You can cancel after you see the available languages but before the download starts, so no need to worry about taking up space or bandwidth on someone else's computer.

One other thing you can try is renaming the Sims 4 folder that contains the game's program files.  This might trick the App into thinking it's not installed, giving you the option to download again, which you can then cancel before restoring the correct name.  I haven't tested this myself and can't right now because the App isn't loading correctly for me, so I'd go with the more reliable method above if you have access to another computer that runs Windows.  But this may well work too.

If you get an error when trying to rename the folder, make sure both the EA App and the EABackgroundService are NOT running in the Task Manager.

I tried, I logged in on another computer and all languages seem to be there, English appeared automatically as the preferred one.

I'll try to make some time to backup my saves and try reinstalling after all.

I'll let everyone know how it went.

Again - thank you for your assistance and support, this experience was really upsetting and your help has been comforting. I am really grateful!
