Seems like I'm not the only one having issues...

I gave up trying a few months ago after the Sept update and finally had time to try again tonight and it's still not working. It forced me to reinstall the EA app to play.

I don't use mods. Newly installed EA app and The Sims 4 base game as it couldn't load Sims 4 without it after the reinstall of the app and now it us unusable. It will load the menu but the menu looks funky and none of the buttons are functional. I can't even close it without ctrl+alt+delete to force it. This is the only game I play and I can't use it anymore. I might try a different PC later but I've already maxed out my data plan for the month re-downloading the fresh base game so.... probably not any time soon.

Windows 10, 1tb hard drive. Always ran smooth in the past. Can't figure out what would have changed on my end.

  • B2HAYES  Please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop.  When you launch the game, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you've moved but temporarily unread by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just have a look around and let me know what issues, if any, are still present.

There are ways to install on a new computer without having to redownload all that data, if you're interested, but you'll need an external drive or USB big enough to hold the entire game, so ~60 GB if you own all the packs, more like 20 for the base game alone.

I removed the folder and tried to load the game again. A new folder did not spawn. I got the error message below.

"Failed to launch game. An error on our end caused the launch to fail. Try again a little later."

I have gotten that same message dozens of times since so I'm not sure how much longer "later" will be but apparently it has not occurred yet lol! I checked the rest of my hard drive to make sure a folder did not spawn elsewhere, just in case (nothing found).

  • I am installing on a new laptop system.. brand new and I have had nothing but hang ups issues and I cant even get into my account to change account issues without it going so slow.... It took 20 minutes to send a security code to my email!!! dont' tell me this is cache.. it is their system! On top of the fact my other games have disappeared 3 times now and they tell me to refresh..

  • B2HAYES  Did you move the folder that contains your saves, Tray files, etc.; or the folder that contains subfolders like Delta and Game?  The latter is the game's program files and shouldn't be moved at all.  If the folder you moved has both groups of subfolders, that's a distinct issue that needs to be addressed.

If you did in fact move the user folder, move it back, then remove the ConfigOverride, Mods, and saves subfolders, and see which problems are still present.  If you moved the program files, put them back and find the user folder in Documents > Electronic Arts.  If they're combined, let me know.

This is where my game is saved. Base game only. Freshly downloaded. Untouched.

This is the folder I removed the "The Sims 4" folder from which is now on my desktop. If I try to run the game, this folder does not spawn. I just get the error message from before. I tried to open an old game of Sims Medieval and it does spawn (just to confirm it is the correct location and only a problem with sims 4) when I open the game.

  • B2HAYES  Please repair the game anyway, in case your antivirus quarantined one of the executables.  If you use a third-party antivirus, please disable it during the repair, and don't reenable it until you've tried to open Sims 4 once.  As long as you don't do anything else at the same time, your computer should be safe.  If this helps, even if you still have some issues in-game, set exceptions in the AV for TX4_x64.exe, TS4__Launcher_x64.exe, and TS4_DX9_x64.exe, or the entire Bin folder they're in, which is inside Game in your first screenshot.

If that's not the issue, please try playing with your computer offline.  You can sign into the EA  App and put it in offline mode, then disable wifi and/or disconnect the ethernet cable before pressing Play.

If this doesn't help either, does the drive letter of the drive where Sims 4 is installed match what you see in the EA App?  I ask because the drive letter is currently I, and if it's external, the letter could change depending on the order in which you connect various devices.  You can see the presumed install location, including the expected drive letter, in the EA App under Sims 4 > Manage > View properties.

For some reason the option to repair the game was not an option in the menu anymore. My antivirus didn't have anything quarantined. I tried both other options and nothing resolved. Then for some reason I could not even open the EA app for a couple days so I couldn't check the drive location. Then I tried again later I finally had the option to uninstall the EA app even though it was stuck for some reason before. (The app was closed within task manager but my computer was convinced it was running and restarting wasn't resolving it.) I uninstalled at that point and reinstalled and then was prompted to update the app. Did that and then suddenly the game opened exactly as expected and I have not had any further issues. What is weird is all the files look exactly the same as before so there must have been something in the app update that fixed the hang up because I didn't change/move anything! Thanks for all of the help!
