sims 4 not opening

hi.

since Thursday last week my game won't open.

i have cleared the cache, tried the moving to desktop and it still won't open. I don't have any mods currently or add ons.

the game  won't open from the ea app either. it doesn't show on my task bar.

opening from steam itll say running for about 10 seconds then it will stop.

i haven't actually seen the loading screen since Thursday last week. I am worried about losing my saves lol

I'll attach the dxdiag. I'm not very technically savvy. so apologies.

thank you

  • Playerjessie99  Your dxdiag doesn't list any Sims 4 errors, which suggests (although it isn't definitive) that the game is being blocked from starting rather than crashing.  Your dxdiag does list a couple of errors from a component of McAfee, and that could be blocking the game.

Do you need McAfee in general?  If not, I'd suggest uninstalling it entirely.  It's no better than Windows Defender at protecting your PC and has a higher rate of false positives.  Here's how to remove it:

Even if you do want to keep using it, I'd remove it for now and test the game once.  As long as you don't do anything else at the same time, your computer should be safe.  If it works, set exceptions for TS4_x64, TS4_DX9_x64, and TS4_Launcher_x64, or the Bin folder they're in.  Set an exception for EADesktop.exe as well, all before launching the game with McAfee installed again.

Whether or not you're keeping McAfee, please repair the game (EA App > Sims 4 > Manage > Repair, or Steam > Sims 4 > Properties > Installed Files > Verify integrity of the game files) before trying to play.

  • Playerjessie99  The link to your dxdiag is restricted, as in, I'm being asked to sign in before I can view it.  Please either set it so that "anyone with the link" can view it, or just attach the dxdiag to a reply here.

Your saves are stored in Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4, or in the Sims 4 folder you moved from that location if you've done so.  They should be intact even though the game won't be able to read them while they're anywhere else.
