So, do we know how many residential rental lots is too many? If the issue is exacerbated by creating/placing "lots" of residential rentals, it'd be nice to have an idea of what "lots" even means. I saw someone below mention they had this issue with just 16 residential rental lots, which seems like a small number when you consider that there are over 300 lots in the game.
I was wondering the same thing! From what I've gathered reading this thread, the bug is not just about the amount of lots/rental units, it's about save file size in general. Rental units can up the amount of lots really quick which is why so many people are experiencing this bug now, but it's also influenced by other things which apparently take up a lot of size. Such as how many objects/clutter there are per lot, custom painted textures for werewolves, custom paint tattoos, household sizes, amount of played sims in a save, etc.
So I guess it's difficult to state an exact number because there are so many factors contributing to his. Every save file is a unique combination of lots, objects, textures, sims, etc, so it really depends per save file how many is too many.
