Hey all C&C fans, there's some great news for fans of the series with the announcement that a remaster of Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn and Command & Conquer: Red Alert with Covert Ops, Counterstrike, and Aftermath has just been announced. You can find the announcement here: https://www.ea.com/en-gb/news/details-command-and-conquer-remastered?fbclid=IwAR2FaKVdVEVVO_o8zNnLXrkk2SstTeB3jRrrYSxLrkYfAJuudBY7TPvRZKA Fellow Command & Conquer fans, A month ago, we let the Command & Conquer™ community know we were bringing the franchise back to the PC, starting with a remaster initiative. The reaction from fans has been amazing, with many of you sharing your favorite C&C moments from the past 23 years. We have been reading these comments and listening intently. And now, we are ready to reveal our first PC offering and how your suggestions are already influencing our approach. Today, I’m thrilled to tell you we are going back to the beginning. We have decided to remaster Command & Conquer: Tiberian Dawn. And while this is incredibly exciting on its own, we’re also aware of how passionate the community is about the Red Alert universe. So, we will also remaster the original Command & Conquer: Red Alert™. But what about the classic expansion packs you may ask - Covert Ops, Counterstrike, and Aftermath? Well, C&C and Red Alert wouldn’t be the same without them, so all three expansion packs will be bundled with the base games into one remastered collection - without microtransactions. In addition to the excitement and support of this remaster initiative over the past month, there has also been a healthy skepticism that we can pull this off. How are we possibly going to remaster these titles while maintaining the authenticity of the original experiences? Bottom line, there is no better way to achieve this than to partner with some of the talented developers who brought these original games to life. So, after years of the fans asking for their involvement, I am humbled to announce that EA is going to partner with Petroglyph Games to develop the C&C remastered collection. Petroglyph Games includes many of the original developers from Westwood Studios, and some of the most influential members of the original Command & Conquer development team from 1995. Joe Bostic is known as the co-creator of C&C, having also served as the Lead Programmer on Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert. Steve Tall joined Joe as a Lead Programmer on Red Alert, and Mike Legg contributed to all forms of audio systems at Westwood, having been an employee since 1986! All three members helped start Petroglyph Games in 2003 after the closure of Westwood and are joined by a veteran group of RTS developers from the past 15+ years. And don’t think we haven’t noticed the #1 request from the community in all the comments from the past month... You want Frank Klepacki. So as a cherry on top for the fans, we are thrilled to announce that Frank will be re-joining Petroglyph Games to be our Composer and Audio Director for the remaster collection! On a personal note, I can tell you the past few weeks have been surreal. During my first visit to Petroglyph, I was able to brainstorm “C&C feel” with Joe, sit with Frank and hear him recite Commando lines, and gab with Steve about whether we should fix the Tib Dawn Harvester AI. Getting to chat C&C with the original developers has been one of the highlights of my gamer journey, and I can’t wait for all the incredible conversations to come. In addition to the fantastic team at Petroglyph, we will also be partnering with Lemon Sky Studios to help bring these original games to 4k glory. Lemon Sky is one of the premier art studios around the world, with a unique specialty in remastering classic RTS titles. After meeting their team and hearing their passion for C&C, we are incredibly lucky to have them team up with Petroglyph to develop the highest quality C&C possible. The exciting part is that we haven’t started development yet. The community is literally getting in on the ground floor of this project and have every opportunity to help influence how we build this remastered experience. Please continue to engage on Reddit and community channels and help us create the best possible remasters of C&C and Red Alert! Welcome Back, Commander! Jim Vessella Jimtern I'm most looking forward for the chance to once again build a field of Tesla Coils and wreak havoc on the enemy and crush them. With that in mind, what is everyone most excited for in a remastered Command & Conquer? I've been a Command and Conquer nut since the very first release. I still play C&C Generals Zero Hour under Windows 7 and it runs perfectly. I've upgraded to Windows 10 and the game will no longer launch. It has no error codes or messages. It just will not launch. Does anyone know a work around to run this game or type of game under Windows 10? I've tried using compatibility mode (XP and 7) and it doesn't change anything. Any help would be appreciated.324KViews29likes94Comments[Info] How to run older Command & Conquer titles on Windows 8.1
Some players have reported difficulties playing older Command & Conquer titles on a newer PC. The following steps should be sufficient to get your games running on Windows 8.1. Run the game in Compatibility mode and as an Administrator Older programs can be run on newer Windows OS versions by telling Windows to act like the older version they need. This is known as running the program in Compatibility mode. If you have a Desktop shortcut for the game, you can right-click that to get started. If you did not create a Desktop shortcut icon for this game, please navigate to the following folder location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\ Within the game's folder, look for the game application itself, and right-click on it. Whether you right-clicked from the Program Files directory or the Desktop shortcut, selectProperties in the right-click menu. On the window that opens, click on the tab for Compatibility. Under Compatibility mode, check the box beside Run this program in compatibility mode for:, then select Windows XP (Service Pack 3) in the drop-down. If you are not offered Windows XP, then choose Windows Vista (Service Pack 1). Finally, in the same window, check the box beside Run this program as an administrator. ClickApply, then OK. Configure Game Properties in Origin In addition to the changes you're making on Windows, there are a couple of minor settings to configure within Origin. Launch the Origin client on your computer, and go to My Games Right-click the game, and select Game Properties In the text field, type -Win Check the box beside Disable Origin in Game for this game Click OK Run the game in 16-bit high color This change is intended to accommodate the difference in the graphics between the older game and the newer system. Right-click the game's Desktop shortcut (or the application itself in the Program Files (x86) directory), and choose Properties. Select the Compatibility tab. Check the box beside Reduced color mode, and select the option for 16-bit in the drop-down. Click Apply, then OK. If you do not have a listing for 16-bit color in your options, that may be a limitation of your hardware or driver. This may ultimately prevent you from running the game, but please first proceed with the remaining steps below. Create or edit the Options.ini file There is a file the game looks for upon launching. If that file does not yet exist, the game will assume it can run at its standard, default settings. Creating or updating this file to the specifications below will tell the game the right settings to use when it tries to launch. Navigate to your Documents directory. Locate the game's folder in that directory. It may be nested within a folder called Electronic Arts or EA Games, or it may simply appear by the game title. Is there a file called Options.ini in this folder? If so, skip to step 7. If not, proceed to step 4. Right-click on a blank space inside the folder, and select New > Text Document. A new Notepad file will appear with the placeholder title New Text Document. Right-click that file, and select Rename. Name the file Options.ini and hit Enter. Right-click the Options.ini file and choose Edit. The file should be blank at this point. If it is not, delete any existing text so that you can start with a blank file. Select the following text, and copy it to your clipboard (Ctrl & C). Paste (Ctrl & V) the content into the text file. Then save the file. AntiAliasing = DrawScrollAnchor = FirewallBehavior = 1 FirewallNeedToRefresh = FALSE FirewallPortAllocationDelta = 0 GameSpyIPAddress = 0.0.0.0 Gamma = 50 IPAddress = 0.0.0.0 IdealStaticGameLOD = Low LanguageFilter = false MoveScrollAnchor = MusicVolume = 55 Resolution = Retaliation = yes SFX3DVolume = 57 SFXVolume = 51 ScrollFactor = 28 SendDelay = no StaticGameLOD = High UseAlternateMouse = no UseDoubleClickAttackMove = no VoiceVolume = 70 The "Resolution" line is best filled in with your desktop resolution. The syntax is simply "Resolution = 1920 1080"; width and height separated by spaces. Try a lower resolution setting If none of the above steps worked, there is one final thing to try. Right-click the game's Desktop shortcut (or the application itself in the Program Files (x86)directory), and choose Properties. Select the Compatibility tab. Check the box beside Reduced color mode, and select the option for 8-bit. Check the box beside Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution. Click Apply, then OK. We hope these suggested workarounds enable your game to run on your newer Operating System. While we cannot guarantee older titles will run on newer computers, we are happy to offer solutions whenever possible to help you to keep enjoying classic favorites. Hey everyone, To keep things in one place and easy to keep track of, we're encouraging you to share feedback regarding game balance and matchmaking in this thread. So what's game balance? A couple of examples would be: unit balance, do matches seem fair and fun overall? If you wish to leave general feedback regarding the game, you can always create a separate thread in the Game Information category. We promise not to miss any of it 😉51KViews22likes896CommentsOne-stop C&C info thread
Many of the issues people have with Command & Conquer games repeat, and some of them emerged after the current pinned threads were made. So, to consolidate all solutions and to make things easier to find and link back to, I've posted these community solutions in a unified thread. Installation / patching In order to get your game up and running, try installing and patching the games using the tech guides from CNCNZ.com. These are categorized by game, and cover all possible versions of the games: retail freeware (where applicable) Steam (where applicable) Origin (individual games, where applicable) The First Decade (where applicable) The Ultimate Collection There are also guides for the entire The First Decade and The Ultimate Collection compilations for those who love C&C so much that they absolutely have to have all the games installed at the same time, as well as quick instructions on how to install DirectX 9.0c and bypass (legally!) the recent block of the SafeDisc driver in modern Windows operating systems. These guides are done step-by-step, but don't forget to look at the notices at the bottom of the pages for classic C&C games, such as specific Windows 8/10 fixes for Red Alert 2 and setting up custom resolutions! You can find the guides here: https://cncnz.com/features/technical-support-help-guides/ (If the staff would prefer, I can transfer individual game guides to here, but the reason I didn't is that they're kinda... big.). Multiplayer For most of the Command & Conquer games, the official multiplayer servers are down. Luckily, fan-made alternatives exist, with communities large enough to get games going. CnCNet - for games up to and including Yuri's Revenge, plus a few mods - https://cncnet.org/ XWIS - for all Westwood-branded games with multiplayer - http://xwis.net/ C&C:Online - for games between Generals and Red Alert 3, including the expansions - https://cnc-online.net/ Tip: peak times are in European evenings. These games can also be played in LAN emulators such as Evolve, LogMeIn Hamachi and GameRanger. _______________________ If something changes, I will update the first post, or ask a CM or Hero/Champion to do it.16KViews21likes5Comments[READ FIRST] Common Issues and Solutions

The methods and tools in this text are intended to fix problems and get the games running properly. Note that most of the fixes on this page are files you need to put in your game folder. The default TFD installation folder is: "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\" If it's not there, simply right-click on the TFD launcher link on your desktop, go to Properties and see which directory it launches from. That should be the sub-folder "Launcher" of the main TFD install folder. There should be a "Find Target" button to go right to that location. If you go one directory up from there you end up in the main install folder. In there you will find a folder for each of the games, and a few more for the TFD launcher, patches and internet files. Unofficial 1.03 Patch This patch contains most of the fixes listed in this thread, get it here: http://cnp.cncnz.com/tfd/ or alternatively here: http://cnc-comm.com/community/index....a=view;down=16 Note: This patch includes files which cause problems with Internet play in TS, RA2 & YR, please check those sections after installing for the solutions to these problems. Nyerguds' guide to installing & patching TFD: http://nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/...lling_tfd.html (note that this is mostly just the manual way of applying all fixes that are in patch 1.03) General fixes: Games won't run in Vista/7: Vista/7 users should take ownership of the TFD main folder. To do this, right click on the "Command & Conquer The First Decade" folder, go to Properties -> Security -> Advanced -> Owner -> Edit -> Select your username -> Tick "Replace Owner" box -> Apply. Vista/7 users should also disable User Account Control: Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Turn User Account Control On Or Off -> Untick "Use User Account Control" -> OK -> Restart Business & Ultimate users: Start -> Control Panel -> Classic View -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Polices -> Security Options -> User Account Control: Behaviour of the elevation prompt for administrators in Admin Approval Mode -> Change to: Elevate without prompting User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode. Change to: Disable -> Restart Games won't install: Check that your DVD-ROM supports dual-layered disc's - to do this, go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager (Vista/7) Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager (XP) copy the model name of the DVD-ROM into Google (or any other search engine) and look for a site that lists its specifications. "Autorun.exe is not a valid Win32 Application" errors can be fixed by removing InCd - it seems to cause conflicts with the security part of the DVD-ROM. Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) errors can be solved by booting into safe mode and installing the game from there (log on as the administrator account). You could also copy the entire disc contents to a folder on your HD and see if it'll install from there. If you have 2 DVD-ROMs on the same Data cable that can be the problem, Put one of the DVD-ROMs onto the same data cable as you Hard Drive. This only applies to IDE (PATA) devices where there is only one hard drive and two DVD-ROMS. If you get An Error {-5004 : 0x80070002} has occurred or similar error then reinstall the InstallShield software: Hold the windows key on your keyboard and press the r button > The Run dialogue should appear > Type C:\Program Files\Common Files into the text box and click OK Right-click the InstallShield folder, and select Rename > Change the name to InstallShieldOld > Start the game installation again to reinstall the InstallShield components with the newest version. If the install succeeds after this then delete the InstallShieldOld folder. "Incorrect CD-ROM" errors - if you have emulation software like Demon Tools or Alcohol 120% then make sure you don't have more than 1 virtual drive. You could also try removing the software too in "Add/Remove Programs" (XP) or "Programs & Features" (Vista/7) in control panel. Note: The TFD Launcher program can be the cause of these errors (especially on Vista/7) so try making shortcuts to the games instead. The xcc shortcut installer will do this for you: http://xhp.xwis.net/utilities/XCC_TF..._Installer.exe Games crash on dual core machines: If you have a dual core CPU, and games seem to crash for no reason, start the game and press CTRL ALT DEL (For XP Pro select Task Manager!), right click on the game's .exe process, click "set affinity", and deselect one CPU. ForceCore is a small program that automates this process: http://nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/.../forcecore.zip Video's hang: On some systems Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert, Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 can hang with repeating sound in the first second of video, this often means it is impossible to get past the Westwood Studios logo. Quick summery! This fix mate only shows for Origin game library. For those who uses CD "original" mate have other view on this. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ So as in "EA support" claim the game is only compatible with Windows 7 Only. Well we all know that's not true, the game was released back in 2003 which means it supported Windows XP. For those who got The Ultimate Collection the support claim to be only compatible for windows 7 well guess what, also not true. They made implantation of one or few .dll files in the installation folder. I don't know what they do but it seem it runs on something also this files it not part of original C&C. These .dll seem only to work compatible for windows 7. The FIX! Resolved issue C&C General & Zero hour for Windows 10 users. Open Installation folder for Origin games "Example"----> C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour. Windows 8/10
This is the fix many of you are probably waiting for! If you have downloaded origin's free release of CC Redalert 2 and Yuri's Revenge, but have a newer operating system like 8 or 10. Then you have most likely been getting freeze-ups and or slow play at very least. So here you go friends> The problem is the game bounces back and forth from virtual to physical RAM for graphics pulls. That is most noticeable when there is a lot going on with large numbers of personnel and machines, load screens and movie excerpts. For some reason, these newer OS types like windows 8-10 don't like that sort thing and can conflict and cause many rendering problems/crashes. For me, I had freeze problems with Yuri's Revenge more than I did with RA2. There is a patch however that will fix the issue using either game's EXE/application start up file. I have provided a patch download link below. Graphics Patch LINK Do things in this order> 1 download the patch from the link above and extract (unzip) the file. 2 Make a new empty folder on your desktop and place the extracted file in there 3 Locate yuri's game EXE file/ AKA application. It will be under C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Command and Conquer Red Alert II The file is called gamemd The file is 4,704 KB 4 Right click on it and copy. You will then want to paste that file in the folder with the patch you created earlier on your desktop in step 2. 5 Now you will want to run the patch file and activate the patch. Its so quick and easy it is self explainable. 6 Once you have done that, you will now right click on the same EXE file and copy it once more. 7 Re-paste that file back where you got it from in step 3 8 Your all done. Things should now run really fast and smooth. No more freeze ups! 9 This can be done with both Yuri's Revenge EXE (gamemd) and you can also follow the exact same steps with EXE (game) to patch RED ALERT 2 as well.335KViews13likes41CommentsNo Player Wipes!
We’ve received a lot of feedback from our player community that they’re bummed we plan to wipe all player data sometime in the future. While this was originally intended so that we could gather your feedback on all the new experiences and tuning changes we’re putting in the game, we’ve heard you and decided to shift course. Therefore, we’ve officially cancelled our upcoming player reset and have decided that there will be NO player resets to our game! So you can play with confidence RIGHT NOW knowing all the credits you earn and medal progress you’ve made will stay with your account. This includes when we go to worldwide launch. Please note that in addition to testing stability, matchmaking, and other aspects of our game, one of the major purposes of this early Pre-Alpha is to experiment and try new things before the worldwide launch of our game. So expect us to continue to tweak features, change unit balance, modify progression and generally mess with stuff until the game is ready for worldwide launch. However, you can be assured that even though we may adjust various things throughout the game, we will NOT reset your player and have you start from scratch. Thanks for taking this ride along with us as we work to improve the game. We appreciate all your time, input and play. The C&C Rivals Dev Team4.8KViews12likes34CommentsThis is how much it costs to level up a unit
Let's settle this once and for all. No more opinions, just math. All these numbers are assuming you are at max XP level of 60. tl;dr $24 to level up one unit to level 10 $48 to level up one unit to level 11 These prices are also assuming that you get EXACTLY the cards you need in each crate you buy. That obviously does not happen, but it should average out on paper for your entire army. If you want to level up only certain units this number gets much worse. Anyways, here's the math. Epic Crate Costs 600 Diamonds Avg 2000 Credits 97 Common Cards 42 Rare Cards 10 Epic Cards Colossal Crate Costs 2500 Diamonds Avg 8500 Credits 414 Common Cards 178 Rare Cards 44 Epic Cards When you compare how much you get for the amount of diamonds each crate costs the Colossal Crate is a better value. But it's only better by ~4% or so. 200 Diamonds costs $1.99 for an approximate transaction rate of 100.5 diamonds per dollar. 15,000 diamonds costs $99.99 for an approximate transaction rate of 150 diamonds per dollar. I will be using the latter exchange rate since it gives you "the best value". So for each 150 diamonds we need we're paying $1. We'll be using just Epic Crates for this which cost $4 a crate if you go with the 15K diamonds. Alright, we've got our diamond to dollars rate, now let's look at diamonds to cards and credits. With the Epic Crate for level 60 here's what you get per diamond: 3.33 credits 0.16 common cards 0.07 rare cards 0.02 epic cards Now, here's what it takes to level up a unit. Level 10: 12,000 credits (4,000 per training level) 600 common cards 180 rare cards 30 epic cards Level 11: 24,000 credits (8,000 per training level) 1,000 common cards 300 rare cards 60 epic cards I'm not sure how to do tables on these forums, so this is gonna be kind of messy. Level 10: 3600 diamonds for credits needed 3711 diamonds for common cards 2571 diamonds for rare cards 1800 diamonds for epic cards Level 11: 7200 diamonds for credits needed 6186 diamonds for common cards 4286 diamonds for rare cards 3600 diamonds for epic cards Now, let's got back to our rate of 150 diamonds per dollar. Looking at the diamonds needed for each, credits is greater or about equal to any of the other three categories. So to make this simpler, we'll assume that we just need to get the credits from crates and will get the cards we need. Level 10: 3600 D / 150 DP$ = $24 Level 11: 7200 D / 150 DP$ = $48 Each unit you want to upgrade to Level 10 costs $24 and each one you want to upgrade to Level 11 costs $48. To upgrade a unit from Level 9 to Level 11 (two levels) would cost you $72. For comparison, Read Dead Redemption 2 a hotly anticipated AAA open world game costs $60 at launch. I've been reasonably polite in my posts so far. Stop ripping us off EA. It's a load of * that leveling up a single unit twice has more value than a brand new AAA game. This is a scam and everybody involved in the production, development, and management of this game ought to be ashamed and embarrassed to even be associated with it. You want to make this game P2W? Fine, do that, it's your game. But at least don't prey on people with addictive behavior and rip them off. Make the prices at least somewhat reasonable. Nobody should be putting hundreds of dollars into this game.3.4KViews11likes33Comments- Anonymous7 years ago2.8KViews11likes26Comments
Command and Conquer Ultimate Collection won't launch in Origin
I just bought and downloaded the C&C Ultimate Collection and found that NONE of the games work. Some of them just don't load, whereas others load the choice screen for original/expansion and I can't click either. So far I have tried: Restarting my machine, restarting Origin (inc. as Administrator), running the games in compatibility mode, running the games as administrator, applying Biddler's launcher update, and using the "repair game" tool. I have trawled the Origin forums and found lots of people asking the same question with no answers or fixes other than the above, which haven't worked for me. I am running on: Acer X3475 AMD A10 5700 AMD Radeon HD 7670 2GB 16GB DDR3 Windows 8.1 I need an answer on this or I will be requesting a refund, very disappointed with EA.Solved74KViews11likes35CommentsCommand and Conquer 4 Tiberian twiligh Register code already being used
