Red alert 2 black screen with sound and mouse
Hi all, When I open Red alert 2 or Yuri revenge I get a black screen. I do got music and a mouse. And when I slide over the screen I can hear i'm moving over the icons. Still black screen. I'm running Windows 8.1 64 bit Please help me 🙂

[Copied from the official C&C forums] Last updated 07/05 '13 Most of this is meant for the First Decade and original versions but a lot of this should apply to The Ultimate Collection too. TO KEEP PLAYING THE OLD GAMES ONLINE SEE THIS POST HERE OR THIS POST HERE FOR INSTRUCTIONS HOW TO DO NOT REPLY TO THIS THREAD WITH YOUR PROBLEMS BUT MAKE A NEW THREAD When posting with a problem, remember to state your OS, which game your problem applies to and which version of the game you're running, ie. an original game, The First Decade version or The Ultimate Collection! CTRL+F to search for keywords is your friend! This around 8,000 words long so scrolling through all of it to search for your problem is not going to be a fun endeavor. Also, if your problem is about the serial code or payment then contact EA customer support, we can't help you. Mouse Pointer disappearing in the Ultimate Collection? Disable mouse trails in Windows to fix it. Note: Vista/7 Users should install the game in Admin mode, to do this run Windows Explorer then browse to your DVD drive, right click on Setup.exe -> Properties -> Compatibility > Tick "Run This Program as an Administrator". Also please install DrectX 9c for Windows Vista (32bit & 64bit)/Windows 7 (32bit) from the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...displaylang=en For Windows 7 64bit download & install the DirectX SDK from March 2008: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en...ng=en&id=10568 Load up both the 32bit and 64bit DirectX Control Panels and enable Hardware Acceleration: Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft DirectX SDK (March 2008) -> DirectX Utilities -> DirectX Control Panel -> DirectDraw -> Tick "Hardware Acceleration" -> Click OK Start -> All Programs -> Microsoft DirectX SDK (March 2008) -> DirectX Utilities (64-Bit) -> DirectX Control Panel -> DirectDraw -> Tick "Hardware Acceleration" -> Click OK This will mean that all the older versions of DirectX are correctly installed and should avoid problems (mainly with Renegade) of games loading and not showing anything but a black screen. The methods and tools in this text are intended to fix problems and get the games running properly. Note that most of the fixes on this page are files you need to put in your game folder. The default TFD installation folder is: "C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command & Conquer The First Decade\" If it's not there, simply right-click on the TFD launcher link on your desktop, go to Properties and see which directory it launches from. That should be the sub-folder "Launcher" of the main TFD install folder. There should be a "Find Target" button to go right to that location. If you go one directory up from there you end up in the main install folder. In there you will find a folder for each of the games, and a few more for the TFD launcher, patches and internet files. Unofficial 1.03 Patch This patch contains most of the fixes listed in this thread, get it here: http://cnp.cncnz.com/tfd/ or alternatively here: http://cnc-comm.com/community/index....a=view;down=16 Note: This patch includes files which cause problems with Internet play in TS, RA2 & YR, please check those sections after installing for the solutions to these problems. Nyerguds' guide to installing & patching TFD: http://nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/...lling_tfd.html (note that this is mostly just the manual way of applying all fixes that are in patch 1.03) General fixes: Games won't run in Vista/7: Vista/7 users should take ownership of the TFD main folder. To do this, right click on the "Command & Conquer The First Decade" folder, go to Properties -> Security -> Advanced -> Owner -> Edit -> Select your username -> Tick "Replace Owner" box -> Apply. Vista/7 users should also disable User Account Control: Start -> Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Turn User Account Control On Or Off -> Untick "Use User Account Control" -> OK -> Restart Business & Ultimate users: Start -> Control Panel -> Classic View -> Administrative Tools -> Local Security Policy -> Local Polices -> Security Options -> User Account Control: Behaviour of the elevation prompt for administrators in Admin Approval Mode -> Change to: Elevate without prompting User Account Control: Run all administrators in Admin Approval Mode. Change to: Disable -> Restart Games won't install: Check that your DVD-ROM supports dual-layered disc's - to do this, go to Control Panel > System > Device Manager (Vista/7) Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager (XP) copy the model name of the DVD-ROM into Google (or any other search engine) and look for a site that lists its specifications. "Autorun.exe is not a valid Win32 Application" errors can be fixed by removing InCd - it seems to cause conflicts with the security part of the DVD-ROM. Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) errors can be solved by booting into safe mode and installing the game from there (log on as the administrator account). You could also copy the entire disc contents to a folder on your HD and see if it'll install from there. If you have 2 DVD-ROMs on the same Data cable that can be the problem, Put one of the DVD-ROMs onto the same data cable as you Hard Drive. This only applies to IDE (PATA) devices where there is only one hard drive and two DVD-ROMS. If you get An Error {-5004 : 0x80070002} has occurred or similar error then reinstall the InstallShield software: Hold the windows key on your keyboard and press the r button > The Run dialogue should appear > Type C:\Program Files\Common Files into the text box and click OK Right-click the InstallShield folder, and select Rename > Change the name to InstallShieldOld > Start the game installation again to reinstall the InstallShield components with the newest version. If the install succeeds after this then delete the InstallShieldOld folder. "Incorrect CD-ROM" errors - if you have emulation software like Demon Tools or Alcohol 120% then make sure you don't have more than 1 virtual drive. You could also try removing the software too in "Add/Remove Programs" (XP) or "Programs & Features" (Vista/7) in control panel. Note: The TFD Launcher program can be the cause of these errors (especially on Vista/7) so try making shortcuts to the games instead. The xcc shortcut installer will do this for you: http://xhp.xwis.net/utilities/XCC_TF..._Installer.exe Games crash on dual core machines: If you have a dual core CPU, and games seem to crash for no reason, start the game and press CTRL ALT DEL (For XP Pro select Task Manager!), right click on the game's .exe process, click "set affinity", and deselect one CPU. ForceCore is a small program that automates this process: http://nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/.../forcecore.zip Video's hang: On some systems Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert, Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 can hang with repeating sound in the first second of video, this often means it is impossible to get past the Westwood Studios logo. CC Red Alert 2 / Yuri's Revenge Graphics Patch FIX! Windows 8/10
This is the fix many of you are probably waiting for! If you have downloaded origin's free release of CC Redalert 2 and Yuri's Revenge, but have a newer operating system like 8 or 10. Then you have most likely been getting freeze-ups and or slow play at very least. So here you go friends> The problem is the game bounces back and forth from virtual to physical RAM for graphics pulls. That is most noticeable when there is a lot going on with large numbers of personnel and machines, load screens and movie excerpts. For some reason, these newer OS types like windows 8-10 don't like that sort thing and can conflict and cause many rendering problems/crashes. For me, I had freeze problems with Yuri's Revenge more than I did with RA2. There is a patch however that will fix the issue using either game's EXE/application start up file. I have provided a patch download link below. Graphics Patch LINK Do things in this order> 1 download the patch from the link above and extract (unzip) the file. 2 Make a new empty folder on your desktop and place the extracted file in there 3 Locate yuri's game EXE file/ AKA application. It will be under C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Command and Conquer Red Alert II The file is called gamemd The file is 4,704 KB 4 Right click on it and copy. You will then want to paste that file in the folder with the patch you created earlier on your desktop in step 2. 5 Now you will want to run the patch file and activate the patch. Its so quick and easy it is self explainable. 6 Once you have done that, you will now right click on the same EXE file and copy it once more. 7 Re-paste that file back where you got it from in step 3 8 Your all done. Things should now run really fast and smooth. No more freeze ups! 9 This can be done with both Yuri's Revenge EXE (gamemd) and you can also follow the exact same steps with EXE (game) to patch RED ALERT 2 as well.

Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour - Windows 10
I've been a Command and Conquer nut since the very first release. I still play C&C Generals Zero Hour under Windows 7 and it runs perfectly. I've upgraded to Windows 10 and the game will no longer launch. It has no error codes or messages. It just will not launch. Does anyone know a work around to run this game or type of game under Windows 10? I've tried using compatibility mode (XP and 7) and it doesn't change anything. Any help would be appreciated.

Our team is aware of a Direct X 8.1 error affecting Command & Conquer Generals and Command & Conquer Zero Hour. I tried the fix posted on the help forum but deleting the file didn't fix generals zero hour problem ( Please make sure you have Direct X 8.1 or higher installed. Also that your video card meets the minimum requirements.) this ran on my pc for months so not the video card also the generals runs fine just not zero hour. anyone know how to fix this?

Red Alert 2 error: ***FATAL**** String Manager failed to initialize properly
I have bought the C&C Ultimate Collection pack today, I installed Red Alert 2 + Yuri's Revenge. Whenever I try to start Red Alert or Yuri's Revenge I get this String Manager-error. I looked the error up and tried running it as administrator, didn't solve the problem. My OS is Windows Vista SP2. Can someone help me solving this problem? Best regards, SNDRT

Hi I recently purchased the Command and Conquer Ultimate Collection to play the game of my Childhood Command and Conquer Generals but whenever I got to launch the game I get and Error that pops up saying "You have encountered a serious error. Serious errors can be caused by many things including viruses, overheated hardware and hardware that does not meet the minimum specifications for the game. Yuri's revenge runs in slow motion. The only game in the collection that does that.
Yuri's revenge runs in very slow motion. It's the only game in the ultimate collection that does that. Do you know what causes that? I run windows 8 on a AMD quad core 635 processor with ATI radion 5700 and 16 gigs of memory

tiberian sun doesn't run on windows 10
Hi, I bought the complete C&C collection from Origin Access and Tiberian Sun just doesn't run on Windows 10. IS there a patch or will you refund some of the cost to me? I know you probably don't like people saying this but, if I pay for it, I want it to work or my money back.

Some players have reported difficulties playing older Command & Conquer titles on a newer PC. The following steps should be sufficient to get your games running on Windows 8.1. Run the game in Compatibility mode and as an Administrator Older programs can be run on newer Windows OS versions by telling Windows to act like the older version they need. This is known as running the program in Compatibility mode. If you have a Desktop shortcut for the game, you can right-click that to get started. If you did not create a Desktop shortcut icon for this game, please navigate to the following folder location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\ Within the game's folder, look for the game application itself, and right-click on it. Whether you right-clicked from the Program Files directory or the Desktop shortcut, selectProperties in the right-click menu. On the window that opens, click on the tab for Compatibility. Under Compatibility mode, check the box beside Run this program in compatibility mode for:, then select Windows XP (Service Pack 3) in the drop-down. If you are not offered Windows XP, then choose Windows Vista (Service Pack 1). Finally, in the same window, check the box beside Run this program as an administrator. ClickApply, then OK. Configure Game Properties in Origin In addition to the changes you're making on Windows, there are a couple of minor settings to configure within Origin. Launch the Origin client on your computer, and go to My Games Right-click the game, and select Game Properties In the text field, type -Win Check the box beside Disable Origin in Game for this game Click OK Run the game in 16-bit high color This change is intended to accommodate the difference in the graphics between the older game and the newer system. Check the box beside Reduced color mode, and select the option for 16-bit in the drop-down. Click Apply, then OK. If you do not have a listing for 16-bit color in your options, that may be a limitation of your hardware or driver. This may ultimately prevent you from running the game, but please first proceed with the remaining steps below. Create or edit the Options.ini file There is a file the game looks for upon launching. If that file does not yet exist, the game will assume it can run at its standard, default settings. Creating or updating this file to the specifications below will tell the game the right settings to use when it tries to launch. Navigate to your Documents directory. Locate the game's folder in that directory. It may be nested within a folder called Electronic Arts or EA Games, or it may simply appear by the game title. The syntax is simply "Resolution = 1920 1080"; width and height separated by spaces. Try a lower resolution setting If none of the above steps worked, there is one final thing to try. Right-click the game's Desktop shortcut (or the application itself in the Program Files (x86)directory), and choose Properties. Select the Compatibility tab. Check the box beside Reduced color mode, and select the option for 8-bit. Check the box beside Run in 640 x 480 screen resolution. Click Apply, then OK. We hope these suggested workarounds enable your game to run on your newer Operating System. While we cannot guarantee older titles will run on newer computers, we are happy to offer solutions whenever possible to help you to keep enjoying classic favorites. Red Alert2: Yuri's Revenge graphics Issue
Hi guys, I'm new to this forum so i am not sure if this is the appropriate place to ask this. I downloaded the RA2+Yuri's Revenge (YR) bundle today from origin since it was free and played RA2 without any problems. Today I started YR and choose my faction, so far so good no problems whatsoever that other people were having with the games. Then the first mission loads and the screen goes black. Then it comes back and the screen is pressed against the left with black on the right. In addition to the 'halved' screens, the screen with the game playing (at normal speed and without lag) is miscolored- everything is purple, red, green, and blue pixels like the game cannot decide what colored pixels go where. ----------------------------------------------------- Specs and Game Settings ----------------------------------------------------- Windows 10 x64 bit NVidea 610GT I3 Processor (it shoudnt matter since the class is already much more advanced) 640x480 Resolution with 16 colors- full screened (this was the same setting used for RA2 with which this problem, or any for that matter, did not occur) Graphics setting- High DirectX11 with 12 installed but not used since my card is not actually compatible ----------------------------------------------------- Let me know if anyone needs any other pieces of information to help me out.

Red Alert 2 Unable to set video mode error on windows 10
I bought the c&c ultimate collection and I got all the games to work except red alert 2. yuri's revenge works but not the base game. I been trying all day but all it says is "error: unable to set video mode" I have windows 10. my operating sys is: Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6400 CPU 2.71GHz Ram: 8gb System type: 64-bit Operating Sys,x64- based processor any help would be appreciative

command and conquer red alert 2. keeps freezing randomly
i have a problem with red alert 2 and its counterpart Yuri revenge freezing at random intervals.. i have to hard shut off the game ( sometimes log out of my pc to stop the program as i cant even stop it the other way) my windows is windows 10 btw (ps. also lost saves but maybe thats is because of a mod i tried to use)

Red Alert 2 Resolution Issue
Hello: I just purchased the C&C Ultimate Collection to play Red Alert 2. The game launches fine, but when I try to increase the resolution to the maximum permitted by the game, the colours on the screen turn inverted and the picture moves to the left of the screen. I am not sure why it is doing this, but would like to have the game run properly. I have tried to play the game using the default resolution, but it really isn't satisfactory that way. I am running Windows 10. Thank you.

My UPS tracking number does not seem to work
I got an email from Origin about my shipment and it told me my shipping number is MI01163900094880 . For some reason when I go to the website I'm supposed to track on, http://returnscenter.smartlabel.com/v3/OutboundTracking.aspx , it tells me "The tracking information is incorrect or the tracking data is not yet available. Verify the tracking information or try again at a later time." I am not sure if I am doing the tracking wrong or if the number given to me is incorrect. Please help.
