Re: MAC FREEZING AFTER 10 minute game play?

@bluebeso

Please can you provide more information about your Mac. Instructions on how to do so and what to provide here - http://answers.ea.com/t5/The-Sims-Mac/READ-FIRST-Sims-4-Mac-Help-Guides-and-Troubleshooting/m-p/4612396/highlight/true#M162

Can you post a screenshot of the in-game graphics options as they were when it last crashed.

Do you have a lastCrash report in the Sims 4 folder? If so please copy/paste the contents here.

The game just freezes it doesn't crash. I have had to force quit every time to restart the game. I also have tried every single setting currently its on ultra without the vertical sync on. i have also tried repairing the game and it is up to date as well. nothing is working. I also tried the windowed and game modes. When I get into live mode the picture freezes but the game continues to play in the background of the frozen picture.

Yes, I looked in my Sims 4 folder and I don't have any crash reports at all as my game does not crash it continues playing but the picture is frozen and i force quit the game. I have a MacBook Air 15inch, 2023 M2 Chip 8GB, and it is updated to Sonoma 14.1.

Yes, I understand about the freezing. Sometimes this will produce a crash report which is why I'm asking.

Enable vsync and edge smoothing, disable Origin in-game.

Do you play with Mods? If so move the Sims 4 folder to the desktop and re-launch the game.

Of course! I haven't seen any crash reports. Does it show up in a crash file or something? I also don't play with any mods. I recently just downloaded the game and restarted everything because I went from a PC to a Mac but I just started over rather than copying the game over. How do I disable origin in-game?

I am using the internal mac display. I started over from scratch so a whole new game. I had the disk on my old laptop. I didn't copy anything over. I used the same origin account but created a whole new game. None of my old games showed up. I wanted to start completely over and thats what I did. There are no previous saves anywhere.

The game installation and the Sims 4 folder that contain your saves etc. are two very separate things. I'm not concerned about the game installation as the game is loading fine and no Windows installation files would work in macOS.

I'm not sure what you mean by "None of my old games showed up", do you mean saves?

I'll wait for you to come back once you've tried the three previous suggestions.

I tried your suggestions they game play lasts for 12 mins now and then still freezes.  The game is still playing behind this screen. I screenshotted it as soon as it froze and i can still click on the buttons at the top the menus just don't show up when i click the buttons. For example, I can click the 3 dots and the menu will not pop up but i can hover my mouse over the middle of the screen and i can tell that the menu options are there, i just can't see them.

☹️ is this happening with all your saves or just a specific one? If you start a brand new save does it still happen?

I just bought a mac so this is the first time i have played on mac and it has not worked since i downloaded it. I undownloaded it and redownloaded it and it's still not working. I never had this problem on my HP.

  • also it is doing it with every single save I do ☹️

Ok. Create a new user account on your Mac and start a new game in that account https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mchl3e281fc9/mac this is to rule out any app or background processes in your current user account that could be interfering with the running of the game.

It may also be worth monitoring processes when this happens in your current user account:

    1. Open Activity Monitor (Applications > Utilities)
    2. Sort by CPU in the button at the top so the highest CPU usage is at the top in descending order
    3. Launch the game in windowed mode, make the game window small and have the Activity Monitor window next to it so you can see both windows simultaneously
    4. When it freezes make a note of the top 2 or 3 processes. If you could screenshot it and post the screenshot here that would be great

Checking in Activity Monitor shows if anything 3rd party maybe interfering with the game such as antivirus or monitoring software or streaming services. Do you have anything like that installed?
