Re: SIMS 4 takes forever to launch

@amindlessgurl

Thanks! I have the same Mac so it should absolutely play for you.

Your screenshots don't show where your game is installed to, where is it? There will be the base game plus a folder called Sims 4 Packs. By default this is in the User's Applications folder.

An external drive is a physical drive you plug into your Mac, such as a USB drive of some sort.

I have attached more screenshots. Hopefully, it is the requested information that you need. If not, let me know because I am still a little confused. Also, is there any way for you to remote into my computer using Microsoft Teams or something?

No, that's not really helpful as it doesn't show me the location, only that they exist, but thanks for trying! Let's try a different way:

Please open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal) and copy and paste the following command then hit Enter/Return:

    find / -type d -name "*The Sims 4*" 2>/dev/null

After a while it will return the results of the search, if it seems to take a long time that's normal, just let it run whilst you do something else. The command prompt will reappear when it's finished searching. Please copy and paste the results in a post here.

Your game is installed on the internal drive in your User > Applications folder. Therefore it should load fairly quickly.

By moving the Sims 4 folder to the desktop it forces the game to recreate a new one in Documents > Electronic Arts which should also cause no problem loading the game.

I wonder if something on your Mac is slowing down the loading process. How long is it actually taking to load, or is it not loading at all once you press Play in Origin?

That's the thing, normally it does run super quick, but now it just loads and loads and never stops loading. I left it sitting for an hour and it still was just loading on the blue screen with the emblem bouncing up and down. When I open Origin, I click on "Play Sims", it shows me the light blue Sims 4 screen, then goes to the blue screen with the emblem and just loads and never gives me the chance to pick a family to resume or even start a new CAS.

I'm currently having this same problem now and I genuinely think it has to do with the EA app replacing Origin. however I wish there was a way I could still play because we have NO idea when the EA app is going to launch.

If you moved the entire Sims 4 folder to the desktop, out of the Electronic Arts folder, then launched the game, it would be like new with no previous user data. If you have done this, and the game is still not loading properly, and you have repaired the game in Origin, then I would think something on your Mac is causing the issue. Did you really move the TS4 folder so the Electronic Arts folder was empty and then attempt to launch the game? Or did you just move some of the folders out of the Sims 4 folder?

EA App is not yet available for Mac users (this is the Sims 4 Mac forum). If you’re a Windows user please post in the PC tech forum.

yeah I know, I also know they're in the process of making an EA app for Mac users. which IMO is why my game is currently not loading currently. I'm a Mac user.

Interesting. Do you have a theory as to how the EA App currently being under development for Mac could be affecting the Origin app?

What happens when you try the new Sims 4 folder by moving or renaming your existing one?

Sorry for the late response, work has had me busy. But I completely removed the EA from my documents folder to my desktop. I have even tried renaming the file "Electronic Arts Old" to reset the game. In the past, this has worked but now it's not. I have attached another screenshot to show you the location of my folder. I've tried doing all the steps again as far as clearing the cache, resetting Origin, restarting my computer, etc., but it is still not loading. However, you made a great point to try setting up a new user account on my Mac and seeing if I can play. So I will try and let you know. My only concern is losing my game progress. Do you know of any way for me to get my saves back if this does work?

Your saves should be safely stored in the Sims 4 saves folder. If the new account works you can copy them over via USB/iCloud/Public folder.

What do you mean by 'clearing the cache'? Sims 4? Origin?

OMG YOUR SUGGESTION WORKED!!!!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank youuuuu!!!!

And what I meant by clearing my cache is that when I was trying to troubleshoot by myself, I seen a video that said to try clearing the cache on my Macintosh HD drive. So I would click Go > Computer > Macintosh HD > Library > Caches , then clear the cache on my computer.

Also, to get back my saves, I am a little confused. Were those the steps to get back my content? Or were those different options on how to get my saves back? Am I able to just go back to my main account, open Finder > iCloud Drive, then drag the EA folder in the drive?

This person also had more luck in a new user account https://answers.ea.com/t5/Technical-Issues-Mac/Sims-4-bouncing-on-dock-and-then-closing/td-p/13183535

I would never clear all those caches in the system caches folder. It's completely unnecessary. There is only one cache file worth clearing for the game on a Mac and that is the localthumbccache.package file and even then only if you're using Mods/CC. You can also clear Origin files or run the Origin reset tool which can sometimes help - https://answers.ea.com/t5/Origin-Mac-Client-Technical/Clearing-Origin-cache-on-Mac-the-correct-way/m-p/12352783

Before I answer your saves question, what exactly do you mean by content?

    @Bluebellflora

What I meant by content is my saves, my bad for the confusion. And I'll make sure not to clear my computer cache like that anymore.

Bad news, it stopped working againnnnn ☹️ Last night, I created a new user account on my Mac titled "My Sims". Before I moved my EA folder in my iCloud Drive, it had let me start a new game. I even saved it, exited completely off of Sims, loaded the game again, and it was working.

Today when I got home from work, my computer was dead. I charged it, accessed my main user account, and moved my EA folder containing my saves into my iCloud. After the files were finish uploading on the new user account, I went to play and it just kept loading again. So then I tried resetting Origin again and it didn't work. Then I tried restarting my sims by moving the file on the desktop and renaming the file "Electronic Arts Old." It created a new EA folder, but still didn't load.

Do you think there is a possibility that once I shut down my Mac, it somehow affects my game, even when I make sure Sims is completely closed before shutting down?

Lastly, at this point, do you think I should try removing my saves back out of my iCloud > delete the new user account I created > create a new one > try shutting down then turning back on my Mac, just to see if it works? If it does work, do you think I could have a corrupted file in my saves causing this to happen?

It must be something related to your saves (annotated your post above to try and show visually why). When you say "Then I tried restarting my sims by moving the file on the desktop and renaming the file "Electronic Arts Old." It created a new EA folder, but still didn't load." do you mean you renamed the Electronic Arts folder? I'm being particular, I know, but when tech. troubleshooting it is really important to use the correct terms to avoid confusion. Files and Folders are not the same thing.

Could you upload your saves folder to a file sharing site and PM me the link to download? I can test in my game.

    No theory, just feelings.

I moved the Sims 4 folder to my desktop and it's still just loading, I don't even make it to the screen to start a new game or load an existing one.

I removed all of my mods and cc and it's still just loading.

I don't want to lose all of my saves. however every time I try to load the game I have a new lastexemption_63 or lastcrash

There is absolutely no link between the Origin app installed on your Mac, and the EA App which isn't even available yet.

You moved the entire Sims 4 folder? Or just Mods and CC? You don't need to do Mods and CC if you moved the Sims 4 folder because it is contained within the TS4 folder.

Can you rename the Electronic Arts folder in your Documents folder, just add a 1 or something at the end, then load the game and see what happens.
