Re: Cannot create log files when apex crashes

Hey @roohimself

When you've got a chance can you try clearing out the Origin cache to see if that helps at all? I've seen cases where something in the cached data can cause similar issues to this. For more info on how to clear it check out the EA Help website

Let me know how it goes when you can. Thanks!

    @EA_Kent

Thanks for your help so far, now i'm still having trouble so bare with me, it's a long text.

So i've tried clearing the cache in %AppData% and deleting the Origin folder

And also deleting the contents in %ProgramData%/Origin except for LocalContent.

The game still crashes intermittently, no pattern that i can tell, sometimes it crashed 4x in a row somestimes not at all after 5-6 hours of gameplay.

So the problem is still that i have in the origin client set under -> Settings -> Diagnostics -> Origin in-game logging (toggled it to on)

But everytime i restart the client it's set to off (not toggled) again and i do not get any logs when it crashes, sometimes the picture freezes but windows is till alive and i can tab out and sometimes it just crashes back to windows desktop, so no hard crashes. And apex is the only game that crashes like this, i also play diabotical and quake champions without any issues with crashes.

And what i have read is that the apex crash logs is supposed to generated in to "C:\Users\myusername\Documents" with the name Apex_crash.txt, is that correct?

    In game video settings

    Display Mode: Fullscren (exclusive)

    Aspect ratio: 16:9

    Resolution: 2560x1440

    V-Sync: Tripple Buffered

    Adaptive Res FPS Target: 0

    Adaptive Supersamling: Disabled

    Anti-Aliasing: None

    Texture Streaming budget: High (4gb)

    Texture Filtering: Bilinear

    Ambient occluision quality: Disabled

    Sun shadow coverage: Low

    Sun shadow detail: Low

    Spot shadow detail: Disabled

    Volumetric lighting: Disabled

    Dynamic spot shadows: Disabled

    Model detail: Low

    Effects detail: Low

    Impact marks: Disabled

    Ragdolls: Low

Some other info that i've read that could generate the problem which i already tried troubleshooting:

    - Disabled Asus (lightingservice, im using Asus Aura)

    - Disabled Asus Comservice (also related to aura somehow)

    - Turned off MSI Afterburner and RivaTunerstasticts

All above simultaneously  (and also other running applications in background such as steelseries engine and logitech G-Hub)

I've tried to set cpu priority to low on Easy anti-cheat process

I've also made sure other programs and such can write to C:\Users\myusername\Documents (there is a anti-malware thingy in windows 10

All above and still it crashes, this is why i need the logs so i can move forwards.

    System specs (custom watercooling loop):

OS: Windows 10 (2004 no available updates at this moment)

CPU: Intel 8700K (Running at 5.1ghz and can OCCT,Aida64 stresstest with AVX2 instructions for 24hrs without any issues)

GPU: EVGA RTX 2080 XC Ultra (also with waterblock) and the clocks on the card have been set to default to verify it's not the gpu or memory that's causing the issue, still the same running stock or overclocked (below 50c at 100% load) also running latest gpu drivers (ran DDU before installing new ones)

Memory: 32 GB Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200mhz (only XMP, no overclock)

Mobo: Asus Maximus X Hero (running latest UEFI)

Monitor: Asus PG27VQ (165hz running it with G-SYNC on)

Just an addition here: The game is installed on my secondary (partioned drive "X:") because "C:" is only for small applications and Windows.

    @roohimself

    Thanks, I appreciate the details!

Is Origin also installed on the X: drive, or does it live on the C: drive?

    /Kent

  • @EA_Kent Hi Kent,

I've actually tried uninstalling the origin client (with revo-uninstaller to remove all related things to your client) and installing it again.

That said, initially it was installed to X: drive, but currently running it at the C: drive to see if it made any differences but it does not affect the outcome.

I've added a gif to imgur to show the client is acting when i try to set it to start logging from the client (and it's games)

    Hey @roohimself

    I appreciate the update!

Usually when something like this happens it's because Origin is being prevented from saving changes to the client settings. In some cases it's because there's something blocking the client from editing the files where those settings are kept.

What sort of security software are you currently running? Have you double-checked to make sure there's an exception for Origin?

    /Kent

  • I figured so to, i'm actually not running anything except windows defender. And it has a "feature" that does not let you tamper with certain folders for instance my documents and such, but this is turned off. But if you know where those settings are save? I can go tinker it with myself since this is probably not an origin issue, might be an windows/microsoft thingy that needs to be changed.

Then i can look into to logs to see what's what on the crashes, btw latest patch i've noticed far less crashes! Nice!

    @roohimself

I believe those files for the client settings should be saved under the Origin folder in the AppData\Roaming folder in Windows. If something is blocking changes to the files in that particular folder it might be the culprit.

  • Hi Again,

I have been out of luck with this game, still crashed intermittently to the Desktop and i still have no clue why.

What i can see in \crashpad\db\ - there is created crashdumps but i do not have a too to analyze and there is no way to contact tech support to get further help.

I really like this game, but i need some help to narrow my problem down, i've been trying more or less everything that i can think off. What should i do now?

    Hi @roohimself

I appreciate you following up. I'm sorry to hear you've still been running into crashes.

Were you ever able to try setting up your PC in a Clean Boot to test and see if that makes any difference at all? If not, can you give that a shot and see if it helps? If these crashes are related to something else running on the PC that might help to get around it. For more information on how to set one up check out the EA Help website. Let me know how that goes when you've had a chance to try it out.

    Thanks!

    /Kent
