Weapon Spotlight - Kraber & Mastiff

Legends of the arena,

Last week we discussed the Prowler and Devotion. If you didn't get a chance to join that discussion you can still ping us your thoughts on those two weapons here. This week though we're going to focus our attention on two of the deadliest legendary weapons in Kings Canyon, the Mastiff shotgun and Kraber sniper rifle!

Both of these weapons are acquired from airdrop packages and heading into Season 2, the will be new loot tables for Airdrop packages for different phases of the game (early/ mid/ late). For example, players will find more Krabers in early and mid-game airdrops, while endgame airdrops should spawn more Mastiffs.

How do you feel they stack up against other weapons in the ring? If the Mastiff or Kraber are available, which weapons would you rather keep over them and why?

Have any amazing clips with these weapons? Show them off here!

  • The Mastiff is really a great weapon for close range combat, which becomes more evident in the later stages of the game! When I have a wingman or shotgun in late-game, I will be sure to swap that one out with the Mastiff.

As for the Kraber.... I don't think I got a single kill with it. Everytime I use it I feel like I can better run with a Longbow. Although the damage output is insane, I find the zoom function really annoying (the big black circle covering all of the screen). As I cannot change it, I don't feel like running with it.

If I remember correctly, the Kraber is getting some Buffs today in S2 so I look forward to how they changed it. Will certainly try it out again!

@DYSPROssium I hope they don't over-do it. I like the weapons being good, unique but not an absolutely uber win-button. Kraber at the minute is one of those things at the minute that can turn a bad fight around : but only if it's used to maximum effect, otherwise it's practically useless. This is the kind of mechanic in a game that is INCREDIBLY hard to create. Respawn have done an amazing job with it.

Completely agree, @Anlbrd ! Balancing weapons and legends is a though job and IMO they did a good job on that.

As for the Kraber, I am not hoping that its damage output gets increased or something like that. I was instead hoping on a small buff like decreasing the draw time to get the weapon ready (or in my case changing the zooming effect of the scope!).

@DYSPROssium If they have it a 2-4 scope it would be a lot more manageable for most people I reckon : but you'd soon run into it being used quickscoped in situations we currently only see INCREDIBLY rarely when someone is forced to try a hail-mary shot. Keeping it as a looooooooong range gun is preferable. For the DMR with 2-4 or 1-2x the Longbow is the right sort of strength. If you could short-midrange with the kraber reliably it would be CRAZY.
