Apex crashes randomly in-game with 0x887A0006 - DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG

When playing Apex (and it happens only with this game so far) the game crashes when in-game with the same error always:

0x887A0006 - DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG

It wasn't happening in season 5 AFAIR. I have tried various graphics settings in Apex without luck so far, the crashes occur consistently each hour or so.

Most of the time when the game crashes, my screen turns black, my video card fans turn off and it takes a few seconds to hear the GPU fans again and see the screen back to normal with the error dialog from Apex crash: "0x887A0006 - DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_HUNG".

Any idea of what's happening here EA? Anyone having the same issue in the past has found a workaround maybe?

All my PC details are attached as a DxDiag dump. In a nutshell:

AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT

Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit (10.0, Build 19041) (19041.vb_release.191206-1406)

Memory: 16296MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 16296MB RAM
Page File: 14612MB used, 14994MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 12
DirectX Database Version: 1.0.8
DxDiag Version: 10.00.19041.0546 64bit Unicode

  • hey @GameLostXception ,

had this problem several times in the past. Check your graphics card, remove the graphics card and reinstall it 100% correctly. It can also help to carefully clean the Pcie Slot with a fine brush. Make sure that the graphics card is really fully seated in the Pcie slot. The pcie connection of the graphics card should not be touched with your fingers if possible. It is best to clean it with a cloth soaked in alcohol or acetone. Incidentally, gasoline lighter is also suitable.

Before that, however, I would suggest reinstalling the graphics driver by uninstalling it using the DDU tool.

Removing all C ++ programs has also fixed the error. To do this, you should then download x64 and x86 from Microsoft and install the new ones again after uninstalling the old C ++ versions. Then have Apex Legends repaired via Origin or Steam.

Overclocking the Bclk can also cause this error to occur.

    Greetings

Hi @Sick1Click, thanks for your feedback.

I have tried all the software solution you've listed already without success: making sure I had only the Visual C++ installations I needed, that the x86 and 64bits installations would be on the exact same version, resetting completely my GPU drivers via the dedicated AMD utility, wiping out Apex entirely and re-installing, etc.

I also don't use overclocking and my GPU settings (fans speed, graphic rendering, anti-aliasing, etc.) are all set to one of the default presets.

Regarding the hardware connectivity check I highly doubt it would be a good culprit for the reason that I play a lot of other GPU demanding games without any issues: Doom Eternal, Sea of Thieves, League of Legends, Borderlands 3, etc., etc. I may give it a try eventually if out of leads.

My guess is more on an issue between the game and the DirectX drivers: I have heard of people getting rid of the issue by disabling some graphic features either in-game or via their GPU utilities. I had many attempts without success unfortunately and am still looking for the magic combo.

    Cheers

I also don't use overclocking and my graphic card settings are one of the few "safe" vanilla AMD presets.

I'll try to unmount the GPU at the very last resort, in the meantime I dream of a magic combo of settings in Apex (and maybe in the AMD utility) that will prevent it from crashing so often.

    Cheers

  • I know this post is a year and a half old, but did you ever find a solution for apex?

I've been having the same issues since the start of season 13. My game crashes as soon as it boots up everytime.

    Heya @ATRxREVENANT,

The issue you're experiencing is much different than what these users have experienced.

In the future I'd recommend making your own post so it's less confusing.

People have said that turning off spot shadows resolves this exact issue.

  • This is on the older side of time, I'm closing this thread to stop it from being necroed.

If you have any issues with APEX, please make a new topic about your problems and what kind of steps you have tried to solve them.

    /Atic
