Apex Legends leaking OS handles (possible cause of high CPU usage for many ppl)

Posting about this here in Tech Issues forums, wondering if it's the reason why a bunch of people have been having problems with Apex using up a lot of their system resources. (me, a few of my friends, and some people on reddit aswell)

Since a certain patch a few seasons ago, my FPS within Apex dropped a lot, and the CPU usage of the game went up a lot. I went from being able to maintain consistent 144+ frames to having them go from 140+ to 60-80 all the time while playing, the game is also stuttering a lot, delaying/not playing audio while showing the starvation symbol near killfeed. It also affects other programs while I play the game, crashes my discord while I'm in voice chat, makes music playing from spotify stutter, etc. It is the only game that makes my computer do this. 

I've tried everything(other than upgrading my PC), reinstalling windows, trying many different driver versions, uninstalling windows updates, overclocking cpu, underclocking cpu, running my mouse at 500hz, running everything in bios at default settings, tested my ram, really anything you can think of.  Intel i5 6600k, RX 6700 XT, 16gb ddr4 2400 mhz ram, game installed on ssd, my temperatures never go above 80 degrees.

Like mentioned in the title, people are attributing the high CPU usage to the game's process only opening handles and never closing any of them.

  • absolute goat. im sure this is my issue too, or at least a big part of it. after getting gaslit by my IT friend telling me "just upgrade ur hardware games too hard to run simple" when i have i5 6600k and gtxx 980 (not the best but certainly should be stable on apex on 60fps

  • Yeah I think this is my issue as well the game is almost always using CPU usage at 100%.

    First I thought the game have problem with shader compilation or texture pool streaming but this might be a case as well since I saw the game uses too much CPU handles in task manager.

    Thank you for pointing this out. I hope the devs see this.
