gtx 1060 discrete functioning apex legends

HI,,

been playing apex  from a month. unfortunately,  after updating to season 6  game is acting weird ,  dropping  frame rates in lobbies is literally killing off the mood to play,, tried different methods like changing compatibility and even  lowered settings to 720p  but the problem continues ,,suddenly, from 80 fps  i experience 20 to 30 fps .. please suggest me a solution ,, My laptop is predator helios 300  i7 8th gen and 1060 6gb  ..here is the picture I took in predator sense and its showing  sudden decrease of usage of gpu  ( the spikes region )

  • It's the map optimization. even high end systems drop frames.. limiting your frames a bit below your maximum with rivaturner makes it a bit more stable as these dips are not as steep but thats about it. i drop from 140-160 to 80fps when entering capital from epicenter so your's is just the same but with lower end system. around 50fps drops.

I would also not recommend trying to go as deep as changing your thermal paste.

You can reduce some excess load in your apex legends by opening

    Videoconfic.exe at Respawn>apex>local

Open it with text editor and change "setting.csm_enabled" "1" to "setting.csm_enabled" "0"

then save the text file and right click the videoconfic, go to properties and set it to read only so apex wont reset this when you play.. it will disable shadows from the game reducing your load quite a bit.

CPU clock will periodically drop while gaming due to the motherboard VRMs overheating causing your GPU usage and framerates to drop. Monitor your CPU clockspeed while gaming, if you see the CPU clockspeed drop while in game, but your CPU temps are fine, it's probably VRM throttling. Undervolting will help with this issue to some extent or just taking off your overclock

  • Hi @ramukyaniv,

Your CPU runs at 97 ° C and your GPU at 96 ° C - that's way too much. To me it looks like there is poor airflow in your case. Clean up your PC, add some fans, or open the case door. You may also want to renew the thermal paste on CPU + GPU.

    #EDIT

Oh sry, it's a notebook. So the only thing you can do, is to clean up with a vacuuum cleaner from outside and probably renew the thermal paste. Also make sure you put your Notebook on a table with a straight surface.

@Sick1Click thankyou,  yeah  i  noticed cpu and gpu problems,, unfortunately, it is well documented  fact that predator helios laptops  rise up to  95 temps both CPU and GPU  .. I tried few tricks such as undervolting vpu and using msi afterburner curve optimisation but none of these are crash-free, so right now only reapplying thermal paste is the option I guess,, will get it done soon.

If you experience crashes then you did most likely bad optimization, trial and error is annoying way but only way really. I personally dont see your issue disappearing anyways until apex decides to do something about it. or new map gets released and is done better. i also assume curve optimization is your fan speeds? how you manage to get crash with that
