(PC) - This Profile not permitted to play online - Apex Legends - Solved

Hi Everybody,

I don't usually reach out and do this but I feel like this might be an issue a fair amount of people could be going through and I would like to spread the word and my solution for those with similar problems, this might even help with other platforms too. (If there is a better channel to do this on, please let me know, I am very new to using forums and such) I haven't been able to find a post that mentioned what I am about to right now (Okay, I am a little lazy I'll admit, I do not want to go through 100's perhaps 1000's of threads until I found the one that matches, but I did go through a fair amount that didn't list the details as much as I did here).

So my background maybe a little different to yours, but the symptoms maybe very close to what you're experiencing, so perhaps the solution part may help you with the issue as well.

--- The Background ---

To start off with, everything was fine with the game with this router (that came from the 1st ISP after signing up) and then I decided to switch to another (2nd) ISP (got a new router) and again everything all good.

However, after moving to a new house a year after, we decided to move back to the first ISP and re-used that original router that it came with as the other router is locked with the 2nd ISP and that's when these problems started. The 1st ISP requires their users to use this specific router for ease of setting, fixing up, etc.

--- Symptoms ---

Symptoms of the problem are as follows (Mind you, I use ethernet (wired) connection):

  • Game taking a longer-than-normal time to load up (sometimes crashing even)
  • When the game eventually loaded to the start screen, when I clicked it came with this 'Profile not permitted to play online' and would end up spamming the game with clicks out of frustration until the game actually decided to load (weird how that worked lol)
  • When finally getting matched, the game would crash at some point during a match (in BR escpecially, normally towards the end...you know.... when it actually matters)
  • If the game decided not to completely crash, it goes back to the load screen with the same message over and over again while I still spam the game with clicks in hope I get connected asap again...
  • Game would be jittery and stutter-y at times
  • Oddly enough, everything else not related to Apex worked fine (a little jittery with the games, other software and applications were fine)
  • After experiencing the above, blaming the game, developers and etc out of a fit of rage (haha)

--- Attempts to fix and testing ---

I tried everything on and out of the link "unable-to-connect"- page that the game suggested (tried a different machine, restarting router, clearing cache on EA app, playing through Steam/EA app, dynamic/public/google DNS, used mobile data instead, changed ipv4/ipv6 settings, cmd prompt flush DNS, you name it....and nothing worked)

However, I figured up to this point that it could be my router and instead of spending $$$ on a new router (My router that came with the 2nd ISP is locked so it cannot work  with the 1st ISP, unless I do some tricky stuff that I kinda know how to do). So I decided to try my two machines at my friend's and family houses and I found that it worked completely fine with no issues.

So then I decided to chat with someone at EA (they were quite pleasant to speak with) and offered the same solutions I already tried (Don't worry, the customer service was actually pretty good, they did what they could!) and they forwarded the case elsewhere (I think to the developers? Not too sure)

--- The Solution (If you TL:DR, this is how I fixed it) ---

Last ditch effort, I decided to contact my ISP and told them my problem and after 15 minutes they adjusted the settings on my service/router, followed by a power cycle (I'm not entirely sure what they did, they changed the IP and some other settings on their end I think) and it now it works like it used to, smooth, no stupid messages, no bs, all good again!.

So all in all, it appears Apex Legends was not too happy with some setting on my router after switching back and forth with ISP's and moving to a new house.

So yeah, if you are having the same issue and tried everything on the unable-to-connect page, just contact your ISP to change/alter some settings, it seems to have fixed this issue for me, it has been bugging me for 3 months now but only the past 2 days I have had the time to actually put any effort into addressing it.

Hopefully this post helps all that are at their wits' end!

    @Its_Raef

It would be amazing if you could find out from your ISP what they specifically changed and post that info here!

    Thanks.

  • Hi @EA_Barry , yes of course, apologies for the late reply. To be perfectly honest, I am not very well versed in this area and I still do not fully understand however, what they told me was all they changed was my IP address.

The most specific I can be is that it was a public IP and they changed it to a dynamic IP address. After enquiring about that, I still do not really understand how or why that impacted the game but that's what they did and it works completely fine now.

I hope this helps things on your end too, all the best!

  • hey, Ive been having this same issue for a while right now and im wondering if changing to a statcic IP from a dynamic one would make a difference? thanks
