Randomly Crashing to Desktop

My game has been randomly crashing to desktop for about 1 month now.
There is no crash dump in the steam directory, no crash dump in local app data, no error or critical error in Event Viewer. There  is no pop-up or crash error message. It happens about once every hour, the game just freezes for a split second and closes. And i am genuinely stumped.  Will post PC specs at the end of the post.

Things I've tried so far:
Running Fullscreen
Running borderless windowed
Vsync off, Triple buffered, adaptive.
Lowest settings, highest settings
Underclocking GPU
Underclocking RAM from 6000MHz (AMD Expo) to 4800MHz
Clearing/resetting TPM
Updated BIOS
Updated Chipsets.
Updated GPU Driver

PC SPECS:
Windows 11 Home 64-bit
ASRock X670E Taichi Carrara
AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D
32GBS DDR5 @ 6000MHz
RTX4090

  • This sounds like the bug they "confirmed" on last patch notes. Happening to me too. Only way to fix it is to play with old NVIDIA drivers (or at least for me its the only fix that works).

"We also want to mention a known issue with DX12. Less than 1% of PC players are experiencing more common GPU crashes (DXGI errors or sometimes a crash with no error) on Nvidia GPUs, typically every 1-2 hours of play. If you’re one of these affected players, please see our Trello post for possible workarounds as we continue to investigate."

Trello bug workaround suggests 561.09. Been testing 566.36 myself with good results so far. All 57x drivers crash without any error messages/memory dumbs/event viewer logs etc. in my system too.

Windows 10 in use so not win 11 24H2 related bug (like there are in some other games).

Haven't tested all drivers after 566.36 so not sure what version is first to bug.

  • x_Apollyon3745  For now, try to verify the game's files and preform a system file check on your PC.

To do a system file check:

    • Open the Command Prompt in administrator mode

    • Type, "DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" (without the quotes), and wait for it to finish.
Note: DISM stands for "Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool". It often repairs Microsoft related files, such as issues with Window apps. Some problems with the next file checker can only be fixed after running this one first.

    • Now type, "sfc /scannow" (without the quotes), and wait for it to finish.
Note: sfc stands for "System File Checker". This one will repair system files, (such as important Windows drivers).

    • Lastly, restart your PC.

You may also need to update Windows itself, (and it would help if you could send a DxDiag log as well).
