Re: Apex crashes on startup after last update

@BostonGators

Thanks for the update. I'd like you to power cycle your equipment with the following steps: unplug your modem, router and console. After 2 minutes plug in the modem and router. Let them come back online completely. Then plug in your console and start it up.

Also, try clearing the alternate MAC address with these steps:

Go to your Xbox Settings
Go to "Network", then "Advanced Network Settings"
Click on "Alternate MAC Address", and then click "Clear"

Let me know how it goes. Thank you!

  • I did was you suggested and still no apex.  This time it was booting back to the xbox main screen before I could press A to continue.   Missing Apex, any other ideas?

    Hello, @BostonGators

Thanks for the update. Let's see if this might help. From the Xbox home screen, go to Settings > Network > Advanced settings > DNS settings > Manual. (If Settings doesn't appear on the home screen, select My Games & Apps, then Settings). From there, enter the Primary DNS as "208.67.222.222" and the Secondary DNS as "208.67.220.220". If that doesn't help, try using the google DNS servers which are: primary alt number 8.8.8.8 - secondary alt number 8.8.4.4.

  • Hi Aljo,

Still having the same problems even after your last suggestions.   I even tried a system wipe and reinstall, no dice.   I can even play other games without issue, including other EA titles like Madden.   Again not sure the problem.  It kicks me sometimes before I can press A to enter the servers, other times I can log in for a few seconds then it closes, and sometimes after pressing A I get the ring that says waiting for precache.    And this only started to happen after update on 3/29.  Also, thanks for your help so far.

No problem. Glad to help. Or try to at least šŸ™‚  Thanks for sticking with me. Do you have the game installed on an internal or external hard drive? Also, do you have any other devices plugged into the USB ports? If so, unplug them and see if you can get to the main menu.

  • Game is installed on internal HD.  I did have some devices plugged in; battery charger for controller and usb charging cord for head phones.   I've unplugged both and I am still getting the same result.  No Apex.   It is sooo weird, sometimes it boots be at loading screen before pressing A, other times it boots me just after pressing A, sometimes it loads up I can see my character and then seconds later is boots me and lastly sometimes I get the white spinning circle that says "waiting for precache".

Do you have an external drive you can try? Also, does there happen to be an update downloading? This thread on Reddit has others with this issue and most all of them had an update downloading/installing. Pausing that update resolved the issue. There also is one person that had the location of their game change drives for some strange reason.

  • Everything is loaded on my internal drive.  This weekend I tried something.... I dusted off my xbox one and loaded it up with Apex and it worked just fine.   So there is something that my Xbox Series X is doing to cause the resetting to main screen.  Again this wasn't an issue until the 3/29 update.  I even tried using different video settings on the X but it still did not work.

Side note: while play Apex on my old xbox one there were 2 or 3 arena matches that caused a fisheye effect to start.  While looking down the gun sights you could not move the gun left or right, extremely difficult to play with.   After a few rounds it resolved itself and play was normal.   After a few matches I had to reset machine,  was totally unable to play that way,  and the error has never returned since.

  • Oops,  I only have 1 drive attached and nothing is downloading or updating

Can you try switching to a mobile hotspot to see if that works? This is just as a test and not meant to be permanent.

  • Hello.  I tried running the xbox via wifi, (it was wired before) and unfortunately I had the same result.   Apex games still closes and dump you back to main xbox screen.

Can you try a mobile hotspot instead? I'm trying to bypass your normal connection and see if it works on a different one.

  • Okay I was able to set up a hotspot with my cell phone and got same problem.

Thanks for trying that. Would you mind performing a console reset to see if that helps?

  • Performed a console reset and the problem still persists.  Thinking it might have something to do with Video settings.   Once Apex became optimized for X|S is when the problems occurred.   I have a  Xbox Series X - Video is set to 4k, TV: Vizio M60-C3
