Others have had random issues using the USB audio most of those dongles are really ordinary or put more strain on the machine than necessary, Try using your onboard sound via the 3.5mm jacks and don't plug in that USB dongle, Could just be an USB issue with dropping etc some usb controllers mainly Asmedia have this kind of issue.

    That definitely was the problem. Bought  a ModMic 5 which uses the 3.5mm jack which has solved the problem.
