Re: Season 5: Severe Packet Loss, Performance Drop, and Server Congestion

Update

so when they had network issues that prevented people from connecting to the quest , I was able to play normal games perfectly. Zero lag or issues.

Today, I was able to play - albeit with lag. Seems my issue is definitely connected to some updates they implemented that make the server more sensitive to congestion.

*edit*

Yep, tried again this evening during peak hours - unplayable, waited a couple hours, still unplayably laggy like before. Guess we'll just have to chalk this up to server congestion or possibly netcode bugs. Wanted to document all this for anyone else out there with similar problems.

  • Updating again to say even after this morning's patch - still getting crippling packet loss and prediction errors.

  • I'm having the exact same problem : packet loss and, above all, prediction errors every match. Only difference is that I've been having this problem since season 3, which made me quit the game at the time. Now that KC is back I wanted to play again but I'm still having this lag issue.

I have tried everything except for the VPN thing. All other online games (mainly Smite) work perfectly fine. Even Apex should be working fine (usually 0% packet loss and ~10-20 ping), but it clearly doesn't. My wifi has a download speed of ~50 Mbps. Is it enough ?

I reaaallyyyyy wish and hope they can fix that problem soon.

  • @ASadAngel What's interesting is that only certain people are affected and region, distance to server, latency, etc. Don't seem to be common factors. Must just be some issue with the netcode that singles certain people out.
  • @ASadAngel just want to update - I found this credit goes to @NAGAAATO
"click on windows button + R and type CMD

then Download TCPOptimizer, you can see how to use it on youtube

    other way,

    watch 1- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZqZsVND6KGU

    watch 2- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_YekcxhMlCw

i already did all the ways, i used to get 110-150 after the way i posted, it shows 15-50"

What I did - I changed my router DNS from google's to cloudlfares (1.1.1.1) - I doubt this made any difference.

Then I followed the steps in the first video and ran TCPOptimizer, selected my adapter and clicked the "optimal" preset (backed everything up first!)

Tonight, I had hardly any issues. I don't know if it was TCPOptimizer or the settings changed in the first video - but something definitely improved. I'm not ruling out that the servers could have just been really low traffic tonight, so I will hold off calling this solved until I can try again tomorrow and verify.

  • @AlGhiorsothank you very much for informing me ! I will watch those 2 vids tomorrow and try the fixes they recommend. But yeah, don't get too excited, I have noticed that the prediction errors are more or less frequent depending on the servers' population. I hope the  improvement you noticed isn't related to it though.

  • @ASadAngel My game is still working - I definitely get the lag, but at least now it's manageable enough that I can play and that's enough for me. Hope it worked out for you too.
  • Mine gets packet loss literally every single game. I'd be less pissed if EA would MAKE A STATEMENT THEY THEY'RE AWARE AND ARE MAKING AN EFFORT TO FIX IT.

  • I tried the changes in the first YT video and yesterday I could play quite decently.

I started having the same problems you have with the last update of season 4, then with the launch of season 5 I was fine, but after the last update bringing WE back I could not play at all, I as back to massive lag. But yesterday, after making the changes from the YT video I could play quite well --a bit of lag at the beginning, as always, but soon I had no lag and I could play well. I even got 9 kills for the first time! : D

By the way, one of the changes is removing a limit of the bandwidth that it is set to 80% by default... I had no idea about this! It is crazy that this is the default setting!

I didn't try the Optimizer though.

    Good luck!

@Riggan-RC78 Hey that's funny, because I just got my first 9 kill game too this weekend. Glad it worked for you!

That's interesting - I'm guessing it could have been a glitch with LSO? I didn't do the fix to remove that 80% bandwidth cap either - I was a bit floored by that as well and will have to fix it eventually.
  • An update...

Two days ago I could hardly play, and hear me out if this makes sense to you. My massive lag started when I started to play in Rank and sometimes I noticed that I had lag also when I joined a party or accepted an invitation from a friend. Like if when I change the server the game goes to hell... does this make sense to any of you?

By the way, yesterday I played for four hours without much trouble but I played always trios, I did not change a thing --if it works well don't touch it! : P

@Riggan-RC78 IDK about you, but my lag is back. Last night and now today the lag has become same as before - model qualities degrade, game becomes full of micro stutters, low framerate, and unplayable. Literally went from winning a match and it all being fine to sudden severe issues in the next match.
