I think it would be best to have your friend reach out to the EA Help team so they can pull up their account and take a look. They might be able to assist with that, but unfortunately account issues aren't something we can investigate here on Answers HQ. 

For more information on how to set up a case with them check out the EA Help website. They can also speak with EA Help over Twitter or Facebook as well if they prefer using those platforms.
