Shared LAN Connection, Apex Legends, & Connection Timeouts

Hello -

Recently my brother finally was able to upgrade his computer to join me in playing Apex Legends, first time we've played a game together since WoW:BC/WotLK, however it seems it's not possible without him constantly timing out when we're together. My gameplay is virtually unaffected, but he lags out every match with "Connection Timed Out / Unable to Reconnect" or similar (not a crash). Without me he's fine, but when I'm here it's impossible to play together.

The only suggested solution I found here: https://www.thenerdmag.com/apex-legends-connection-error/ isn't possible on the AT&T router I have unfortunately. I'd rather not VPN as it is not optimal for gaming, and don't want that to be the only resort we have.

Has anyone else found a fix for this? We play on the same local network & share the same public IP, but for whatever reason this means Apex will lag my brother out always. Neither of us have port forwarding open for it, which I'm going to try out & report back.

Technical Specs upon request but it isn't hardware related 100%, def something to do with either the server-side rules preventing two connections from a single IP or perhaps a network setting (unlikely since we've never had issues like this in the past with WoW, CS:GO, Warcraft 3, etc.).

tl;dr two computers, one local network (AT&T router, have a secondary router upstairs as an access point/bridge + 10-port switch) + one public IP, unable to play Apex Legends together as brother constantly times out with "Connection Timed Out" error message whenver we squad up or I play when he's home. Solo we are fine, no issues. What gives?

  • Each device on the network needs its own IP in order to play normally the modem sort this out if that dont work you need fix it your self to each PC with its own ip still issues after that I recommend poking your ISP. @Marclivis
