I appreciate you giving that a shot as well.
In your case is this only happening if you're running the game through Steam? Have you tried installing and launching it through Origin to see if it's still crashing that way as well?

Got it, thanks!
Do you have any controllers connected to your PC at the moment, such as an Xbox or PS4 controller?

Got it, thanks! I just wanted to make sure because we've recently seen some issues where controllers have been causing some issues with DX12.
Since you recently installed a new motherboard there is something else I was curious about. Have you checked in your BIOS to see if the board is set to use PCIe 4.0 rather than 3.0? Some newer boards give you the option so I am curious if it may have defaulted to using PCIe 4.0. If your GPU doesn't support it, that might be related to what we've been seeing.
When you have the chance can you open your BIOS and see which version of PCIe it's using? If it's set to use PCIe 4.0 can you try changing it to 3.0 to see if that makes any difference?
Thanks again!

I just changed it to PCIe 3.0 and its still crashing. I also just noticed that it is crashing my computer when I play Rust as well so i really have no idea whats going on.

Hey guys, I just want to say that this might be helpful for this thread:
check your event viewer in windows:
1.Press Ctrl+R to get "run" windows popped up on the bottom left screen.
2.Type eventvwr.msc in the prompt and press Enter.
3.Goto windows logs/system on the left navigation panel like this:
4.look for Event ID: 12, Source: Kernel-General that should say something about "The operating system started at system time xxxx-xx-xx-xx"
and there should be plenty of errors and warnings below this Event that could be helpful to diagnose this problem.
if possible, please send the result as screenshots or video recordings.

Hmm, I found a lot of these events but there are no errors or warnings below it. Here is what I have found.

Thank you for considering my idea.
Can you provide a screenshot of how the whole evenviewer window looks like when the eventID 12 is in the list? (not double clicked into the event, just the event list)
that should look like this:
below the evenID12 highlighted in this picture was what happened before the system startup. try to see if there is an error or warning below this event in this list.
it can be fairly long due to how much the log level and detail set on your windows.
- 5 years ago@wolf109909 I think this is what you are looking for.

Exactly! now find the exact date and time where your apex restarted your PC. or simply run the game again and let it generate another log that only corresponds to this issue, and we can work around with this.

I did this and have these errors around the crash. https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/649679288358010880/833416827543617606/unknown.png - 5 years ago
Hi! I've been doing some research to find stuff around this problem.
and I did find something here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/pc-keeps-crashing-during-certain-games-event-id/6de32bc3-9eee-4a9f-8892-072a3ce22c8b
this might be the same as yours since you crash the second you press enter and the game starts its internet process finding and connecting to servers. please try around this post and stuff inside of it to see if any helped.

Were you able to give the steps from the Microsoft forums a shot? Has that helped with the crashing?/Kent

@Mr-Stove-Oven is the problem cleared for you or still facing the same??

I forgot to revisit this thread cause I realized the issue isn't specifically this game. I'm still at a loss, I get an identical crash across multiple games now, including; valheim, ffxiv, apex, haven, darksiders genesis, and outriders. So far, COD Cold War and warzone are the only games that have yet to crash my pc. Lowering the graphics settings in outriders, valheim, and ffxiv alleviated the crashes entirely while slightly reducing them for the other trouble titles, minus apex which still crashes after clicking to continue.
My event viewer generates a surplus of warnings all saying roughly the same thing: https://ibb.co/sRyxBt2 Although I dunno what to do with this info.
I tried what @wolf109909 posted with the microsoft forums, running prime95+furmark stress tests with no errors, sfc/dism commands, memtest86 and windows memory diagnostics, two different wifi adapters, two ssds, two dram kits, two monitors, even reinstalling windows and all the drivers for everything I can going through device manager.
- 5 years ago@Zelphae Thanks for all the information. distributed com usually won't force pc into a hard restart state. but lowering graphics settings reduced the crash is kinda weird. maybe perform a VRAM test? since p95 and furmark is fine them problem might not be on RAM ,CPU or GPU core.
@wolf109909 I actually thought about that as well, so I tried running all the different variants contained in msi kombustor. I ran the furmark donut that utilizes ~75% of vram (6500MB in my case) for 35min without a crash. According to hwmonitor, the vram and "hotspot" nodes peaked around 72c. Sounds reasonable, although I imagined it would be lower since it's under water.
I'm thinking the issue is soft/firmware related at this point but I can't think of what else to try. Rolling back to windows version 20H1 instead of 20H2 is something I've considered.
I don't understand how the cod games don't crash, given they're the most taxing titles I run. Is it possible the other games have some sort of memory leak or incompatibility with something?
- 5 years ago@Zelphae This really depends. And We've basically tried everything except changing OS at this point. I recommend you install a new copy of windows on a USB stick and test it out.
