You are right not many recon players go after tanks. I understand what you are talking about there are alot of times I play support and can easily blowup a tank but am useless.
Everyone likes to play engineer for the SMG buff to run and gun but won't shoot a tank. So I play recon and hunt the vehicles.
Maybe they need a weapon for support like a track buster to immobilize the tank to stop and find repairs. Just immobilize it until it's fixed. Just guessing here.
Don't really matter most games because the tank can sit in spawn and kill.

Right now, only two classes really have the tools to deal with vehicles effectively, which can limit team flexibility. That’s why I think bringing C4 back to the Support class would make a lot of sense. It would give more players a way to contribute against vehicles without relying only on Engineers.
I also like your idea of adding new gadgets. Something like a “track buster” or a mobility-disabling tool could be a great addition, as long as it doesn’t become too strong and take away from the Engineer’s main role.
If it were up to me, I’d bring C4 back to Support and add a gadget similar to what you mentioned to the Assault class. That way, every class would have some way to defend themselves against vehicles — in different and balanced ways — without making it too easy or removing the importance of the Engineer.
