i would love to play it but no servers are running 

I made one similar at the club house. I call it King of the Hill. It's like conquest but only one objective. You spawn, 20 players per team, at opposite sides of the club house hill and try to capture and hold the clubhouse. Once you have the clubhouse, you can use longer distance weapons to try to hold it. Otherwise, it's a constant barrage of close quarters.

Like he said in the video, I wish I could get any amount of traffic to play it like it is supposed to be played. I hosted it and am just running around with bots hoping people will join. I feel like the community experience is missing.

I managed to get in the game last night, but I could not see my gun. I could not see the tanks or helis etc, I could see their name tags, but not the vehicles themselves, and movement was weird, so I quit.

The portal servers have been on the fritz. I would try again once they get them stable. I recently made some updates to the map and have two other maps to share. Will make a new post soon with codes for the playlist.

Every map is bot-free once enough players join. The purpose of bots is to give people something to do when not many other players have joined.  Since there is so much hate of Portal for various reasons, getting players to join is hard. These threads wouldn't exist if players joined regularly and reaching out to them wasn't required.  Since custom maps get no weapon or challenge XP and or unlocks anyway, there is no downside to using bots.
