This is just complete crap, rag on me all you want. But there is no reason for having multiple ships and a character that isn’t even farmable yet in platoons and squadrons. A long with difficulty of the events, this is going to make the LSTB almost impossible for average guilds. I almost feel as though we should be able to choose light or dark side.

Territory Battle is not a binary can/can't. Even if the specific platoon units make it harder to get more stars, you're still participating and performing at some level.
Like any new endgame content, LSTB is not meant to be something you master on release. It's meant to be something you work on and improve over the course of months and even years. That some of the units are new and rare at this moment is completely irrelevant. They'll go farmable, then people will farm them, then they will be more available for platoons.
While platoons are nice, they're not a case of, "Get 6/6 in all platoons or you
lose Territory Battle." If you don't fill all the platoons, that's fine. Just do your best and get stars.

I want a designer/developer to justify why they think forcing us to lock off characters we put significant resources into makes for good game design.
"Hey you spent months farming, gearing, relic-ing, modding, and zetaing your favorite characters. Want to use them to play some of the most frustratingly difficult content in the game? Too bad. We're taking your toys away and locking them in the cabinet."
That's not what they're doing.
This is a guild event, not a solo event, and all units become more common over time. Just because a unit is called for in platoons doesn't mean it specifically has to be yours.
Different people's rosters are different, and platoons are meant in part to reward that diversity, so that we don't settle into a single optimal configuration for TB where everyone is using the same teams.
Take my case. My guild has a multitude of seven star Rose Ticos. Mine is R2 and zeta'd, and is a key unit on my JTR team. Most of the Roses in my guild have hardly any investment. If a Rose is needed for a platoon, it will be one of the weak Roses, not mine.
Meanwhile, my Sith are fairly weak. I never really built them up. It's no skin off my back if I platoon my G8 Darth Revan, Malak, or triumvirate. And that means the slot gets filled without someone else who has a relicked Darth Revan slotting theirs.
Teamwork makes the dream work.
