There are TONS of people who can get Red Crate but who either don't have Grand Inquisitor or don't have any need to max Scythe right away. Very few people are using Scythe in Fleet Arena, after all.
The scythe was the best opportunity in a long while to use Conquest credits for rare g12 gear. Unlock Scythe 2 months later (if you even have GI by then) vs. unlock Jabba (or another GL) 10 days later? Depending on where and how you're using your fleet and whether you have GI the most Scythe favourable situation is "have 7 GLs already" and anything else it goes from a coin flip to a no-brainer in favour of g12 gear for your GL chase.
I'm not here to shame anyone who went for Scythe early (I have Scythe myself and the most use I get is Ops missions and watching it get targeted out of existence in the first turn on its required mission), but it is NOT a great oversight to prioritize G12 gear. It's a completely legit alternative strategy when you'll get Scythe for free 8 weeks later but the gear is not replaceable.
